agreed. They don't get to be fans of him if he plays well either

Haha. I mean, who should be upset over a 14 overall pick who's now relegated to a NT role who's given us nothing when we needed it the most (last year).

If he plays well going forward, he'll earn the right to be supported like so many others before him (e.g. Ward, Armstead, etc.). And he'll rightfully be praised accordingly.

^ This.

We're allowed to be critical, and upset, if a player who was highly drafted isn't doing anything and/or is injury plagued.

I blame the front office more than I do the player in this case. They knew about the knees, they knew he was raw....

I hated the pick from the minute they made it; not because I have a personal aversion to Kinlaw but because it seemed like a bad pick at the time with so much talent on the board.

Sure, last year is a wash because he was on the shelf, and mayyyybe that's why he didn't do that much in his rookie year. But he's going to have to take a massive leap forward to be anything other than a completely underwhelming bust.

Armstead was able to shed that same reputation; granted he didn't do anything until other teams had to deal with Buckner/Bosa.

Last year? Pretty sure they had a good DL without him, no? Healthy Kin is a only gonna make it better IMO.

Nah if you can't support him when he's down, you shouldn't get the glory of praising him when he's doing his thang

Fans have a right to be upset. We traded away one of our most consistent, productive players ( Buckner ) for a guy who so far has been Injury prone and done very little. Imagine fans having an Opinion on their own players

Yeah, nobody has a right to tell fans if they should be upset or not over a player whether they're down or not. The point is we all should be disappointed with him although I am a fan of his still. I love the fact that he is one of the only lineman we have that has been able to consistently swat passes and I loved his blocked field-goal.

He is a monster but has so far been a disappointment and we have every right to be pissed off at that. He will be a very solid player when healthy, especially against the run and we will praise him for it accordingly.

But even the bolded is a significant downgrade of expectations for a nearly top 10 pick in the draft. You can get "solid" and "run stuffer" anywhere. You need a special, game-changing talent when you're drafted that high. And the fact that we're already tempering expectations shows just how underwhelming it's been so far.

Very true, but I think it's more about the people that wrote him off before he even played a down because they were salty the FO didn't draft the guy they wanted.
Excited for my SC dude

Bingo. He was supposed to grow into the pass rushing 3T...not a 2i. We get 2i's in the 6th round (D.J. Jones) and as UDFA's or from the overabundance of DT's always available.
Glass half full. Seeing what a hurt Kinlaw did (blocked field goal, swatted passes, interception for TD), what will a HEALTHY Kinlaw do⁉️😎

Love it!
Wasn't he moved to NT because his knee was impacting his movement? I thought it was just a way to keep him involved while hurt.

People seem to forget that we basically traded Buckner for Kinlaw.

People seem to forget how much money 84 million over 4 years is...

Still, I wasn't happy about giving up Buckner either.

i was mad about the buck trade.but of course... what made me madder...... they had no plan or a poor plan to replace buck with someone as good or better.. a guy with red flag knee issues. maybe jacob will be the player we HOPE he will be.. maybe. its like deebo,, fine if you dump him.... you damn well better have a plan to bring in someone as good or better... thats how its done.. but to many times in our history. from coaches to players.... we do not do this and are always in a reactive mode than proactive.. for every one thing they do good like with getting trent w for joe... you got a jacob for buck, a dennis erickson for mooch, a jt for jh.. ugh. a adam walker for william floyd
Happy to hear Crocks is continuing to progress in his rehab. We're going to need this DJ Jones 2.0! 2i is a very important position in this defense.
