I was told by a legit doctor that after taking so many pain killers (opioids)...when you get off them, your body could trigger messages (as in pain), having a person think that there's something still wrong with the original cause, but in fact, it could just be the body reacting (wanting more pain killers)

The body can do all kinds of crazy things if there is a true addiction. But that's not the case here. His tendonosis & tendonitis have shown up on imaging. So, he's not making it up. I wish he was.
It's tendonitis, it happens with overuse. Ford doesn't look like he's out of shape and probably works out all year long. If people are thinking he's hobbled on a cane and doesn't move tendonitis isn't really like that. By not overusing that muscle it one day just goes away. It sucks when you have it though, but chances are you got it though overuse.

We definitely will see how he goes by week 10. I think he'll be fine if they just manage his tendinosis. From a money perspective, he's set for life if he is conservative with his finances. As for pain tolerance, I don't know if they can numb the area, or even if that's something good to do, but for all the pain, the money he gets is pretty darn well worth it, in my opinion.

Base salary 4.750 millon
Roster bonus 7.750 millon
siging bounus 8.000 million,
total 20.5 million for *just this year* (doesn't include next years bonuses and salary)

Even in the bay area, 20 million minus (6 million = 20mX30% taxes) is 14 million, 14 x 1% interest = $140,000 a year for life. If he doesn't spend a dime of this years money and just lives off the interest.
What's the over under on the guy playing this year. I say he doesn't last more then 6 games.

if they can just keep him off the knee during the week they could have him only play in games which would limit his overuse an pain on the knee

I think he'll play most weeks this season, barring a new injury. The issue will be his total playing time and overall effectiveness. His tendonosis has zero chance to heal during the season. His accompanied tendonitis will be a week to week proposition.

Tendonosis recovery is measured in months -- not weeks -- and certainly not days.

People forget. It's not just a pain tolerance issue. If the tendon is inflamed, that means it cannot operate fully. He can be a tough guy, but if the body doesn't want the knee the bend, the knee isn't going to bend.

Yeah, that's the only way to go for the rest of the year. No other realistic options to be honest.

Bottom line is I think this puts a lot of pressure to figure out something long term with either AA or Blair (or both?).

All the haters from the Jimmy G thread moved to this one

exactly. they can't pick on jimmy g so they move on to bashing ford.

jesus . no one is bashing ford. he has a knee issue. thats a fact. he aggravated it sunday. thats a fact. he is key on our d line. thats a fact. no one is hating him. just some concern about him a bit this year and for sure down the road.there is no malice intended when some say. oh. now we know why the chiefs did not make an effort to keep him.i swear. some people have such an affection for the term haters, they throw it around like xmas candy. no one is hating on ford. just a bit concerned about his knee

When cc is dropping logic on you, it might be time to hang it up golden and just slowly walk away.

Also, I would not be surprised if the Niners keep him out (regardless of how he feels) for the Panthers game. The next game is a divisional game vs. the Cardinals on a Thursday. Has to play in that one.

I may have to go back and rewatch but I did notice him hobbling and not bending and not blasting off and didn't even know he was taken out as a result. I really hope this can be managed but it's starting to look like this is only going to get worse over time given the degenerative factor.
I just wish i weren't reading this. Damn, dam, dam. I just hope it isn't as a bad as bad could be.

This offseason will be the most critical of his career health wise. And I know he's fought unrelated injuries in the past.

If he comes into 2020 with unresolved tendonosis, which is possible with even the best care, then I would push the eject button.
