Seems a little strange. I think Reid is still only 25 isn't he? So they bring in a journeyman who has already been cut by two teams who is at least a year older than the guy they had who already had a year of experience in the team's system. I don't particularly have a horse in this race but Reid always seemed like a thoughtful and responsible guy who was a decent player. The type you would want to have in the locker room . One has to wonder if the team was really that unhappy with his play or believed he wouldn't want to return at backup money or if there is something else at play.

This whole kneeling thing has become such a ridiculous s**t storm. Really don't get what all of the fuss is about it. I think a better idea than restricting players individual right to protest would be to just stop playing the National Anthem at the beginning of all sports games. I mean really, what is the point of it anyway. Just sort of phony patriotism. Lets all stand soberly for the National Anthem and reflect on the "greatness of America" while we get ready to watch a bunch of guys play a game. Many of whom will make more money in a year than most of the people watching them will make in their entire lifetimes. Just another form of corporate control and brainwashing if you ask me.

Money is not an issue for a position of need, however, it is foolish to pay starter money for a backup.

Reid likely wants to start and get a long term contract. We have a starter already in Tartt and only need backup/camp fodder at the position. Reid would have to settle for a diminished role if he were to sign in SF.

Preach on!!! Eric Reid is definitely a much better player than this JJ Wilcox guy.

Out here it was reported that the Cards looked into guys like Reid and Boston but the price that came back was a lot more than they were looking to pay at the time.


I am guessing that there was a significant difference in what Reid would cost vs what Wilcox ended up receiving.

Wilcox was cut once by Pittsburgh after the draft. He left Dallas as an FA and was traded by Tampa right after they signed TJ Ward off waivers from Denver. Pittsburgh cut him after drafting multiple safeties in the draft.


He's a very good character guy, great locker room guy and even if all they are bringing him in for is as a camp body, he is the type of dude who will give 100% for whatever they ask of him.



People talking about Reid like he's Ed Reed, he's a solid safety but nothing more than than that and is likely looking for at least average level starter pay. After Tartt took his job, it seemed that the writing was on the wall for his career with the 49ers.

people think its fine to do that for ward .. just because we have the money seems to be the justification that is needed

As I said I don't have a horse in this race. I don't know anything about Wilcox as a player or a person. The team seems to have a pretty good eye for defensive backs so I will assume they know what they are doing. It's probably a money issue as much as anything. I'm sure they can get this guy for less than what they would have had to pay Reid. It just sucks that a decent player like Reid seems to be getting caught up in all of this other stuff. Hopefully he will find a place in someone's training camp this year.

What stuff are Tre Boston and Kenny Vaccaro getting caught up in that has resulted in them still being FA's? Boston had the same exact PFF score as Reid this past season. Vaccaro had his best season and showed improvement in coverage.


I think Reid's protesting plays a part but the bottomline is that the league just isn't valuing safeties with limited coverage skills a whole lot anymore.

These 2014 guys were busting their asses and looking to cash in and the NFL game has largely moved past them and none of them are receiving the $$ offers they were hoping for.


Wilcox isn't Reid but he's cheap, experienced, a good locker room presence and they can easily move on from him in favor of a rookie like Harris.

If you owned the team or better yet if you owned a business, would you hire someone who is suing you bc they aren't employed by you?

That should be the end of the Reid conversation.
