They offered him 1 year and $2.5 million reportedly but he wants to be a starter somewhere. At this point, if he's willing to swallow his pride, there is no reason that a deal couldn't get done. Its not like he has a plethora of options and the market for veteran safeties as a whole has been awful. $2 mil would be pretty fair for Reid at this point.

Wow didn't know Whitner was still around

He's part of the new 49ers coverage team for NBC along with Greg Papa and Ian Williams.

Agreed. If I were the team, I'd offer him that in a heartbeat. But as mentioned, he'd have to buy into being a backup. Yet anything can happen during the course of a long, tough NFL season...he could find himself starting at some point.

I would love this.
I feel like he isn't gonna sign anywhere regardless of the offer
I can't blame him for wanting to be a starter. Only way he'll get paid in the future is if he plays and reestablish himself.
Needs to take the one deal then try again next year for the long term.

Tartt has been hurt a few times too, it's not like he's an iron man

watching brick by brick, he does look bigger, and they did say how he put on more muscle this offseason. Tart also mentioned how that was a focus for him to be in good shape. so hopefully he can be a bit more durable back there.
Haven't been impressed our safety play so far...sorry, but Ried would be an upgrade.

A huge upgrade at this point, and I don't even like Ried's game.

Our DB's need competition (minus Sherman), they are way to comfortable right now!
8.5 million for Jimmy Ward, but a 1 year bargain contract for Eric Reid...
Lets bring Reid back, at least he can tackle. I don't care about his protesting as long as he can ball.
