I totally disagree with half of what you say.

You guys are betting on a bad horse, going to get a lot of posters around here exposed. Maddog has been analyzing the draft since I found this web forum over 18 years ago, IDK how long he was going before that. My point is the guy knows a thing or 2, and if he grades the trade a "F-" his words "couldn't give it a lower grade" that means something.

He joined in 2006

Maddog has gotten a bunch of prospects wrong before. Some that he hasn't liked have turned into good players. It happens to even the best of pro league scouts and he's not an actual scout in the NFL, so...

That all pretty much goes with out saying (obvious) I'd bet he's gotten a lot more right than wrong.

The point is that he's not perfect or even close to it.

Honestly this is why I don't even bother with post draft grades from talking heads like Kiper, Mayock, Jeremiah, or the countless others that seem to keep popping up everywhere. It's pointless to grade someone without knowing how they fit into a teams plans. Way too much involved to simply grade something immediately after it happens

You're betting the house on maddog? Vs Kyle? Nothing against maddog he puts work into it, but he is just like Mel Kiper. Until they coach or work for a team that is a bad bet.

Now I will say this, he is merely grading the trade and value, which I understand. Did he say Pettis wasn't a 2nd rounder? All this value BS, I don't care, it is more important that in the end, he lives up to the expectations. Was he productive. If his ceiling reaches John Taylor then the trade/pick was more than worth it. If he does more great.

His is more group think-doesn't take into account the scheme fit. How many time does a good player go to another team and fails-because they don't fit. You think he is going to get bullied-then explain trent, or edelaman, welker, cooks? Production.

I hated the trade from the minute it was made, almost threw my tablet into my Television. When we traded up to 44 I was pumped, here comes Anthony Miller or Isaiah l Oliver, nope here comes 4th round projected Dante Pettis. Thanks Shanahan. Fell in love with another "coaches son" hes so biased when it comes to player evaluations. No wonder he missed on so many good players last year. Literally traded out of the pick that could have been Kamara. Wonder how many good players he missed this year trying to find his exact type

What? That I poured over the tape? Well... you are correct, I did no such thing!

Yes you did! Admit it!

Edit: Hmm...or is it the other half...will get back to you...darn draft is so full of holes! By the way, I watched at least five college games last year so I'm quite expert in this analysis!

Nothing against any posters in here who put the time in each year to evaluate players for the draft...everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But I'll go with what I'm seeing AND hearing from Shanahan, Lynch, aka, the quality "football guys" the Niners have in working with their scouts and conducting player evaluations to find the right talent for what they want to do in the three phases of the game. So far, I have been highly impressed with what these guys are doing in building and following through on their plan.

Regarding the Pettis pick, I was very happy they picked him for the reasons they've mentioned (what they like in him, how they might use him, etc.) along with his playmaking abilities I've seen at WR and in the return game. I was hoping they could get him without trading up like they did but maybe they had some info that we don't know about - that maybe another team was looking to grab him before the Niners picked in Rd. 2. Or, maybe they just wanted to be sure they got their guy and thought it was worth it to them all the way around (value, their board, needs, etc.) in where they picked him. Looking forward to seeing what Shanahan can do with him, especially when you have a QB talent such as Garoppolo.
Shanahan, Lynch, other coaches, scouts...all put in so much work and have such better access than anyone on this board it is silly to get upset over their picks until they either pan out or are cut. Just because I wasn't tuned into Pettis does not make him suspect. He's 6'1", 190, quick and explosive into his cuts, and has great hands. Sounds so much better than past picks like...Patton.

Right hand held times vary he's a 4.4 guy plently fast, DJax is faster.

That was 2016, I think 1 year and a half later he is a legit mid to late 4.3 guy. He boasted that he feels he could beat his former team mate Ross's 40 time. Got to like a guy with swag.

He was joking

Pettis is going to get bullied in the NFL, didnt have a single good performance against a quality opponent in 2017

Well technically you're right, he did do pretty well against a quality opponent on December 31st 2016 though.

Maddog was wrong about the WR we drafted last year, he could be wrong again.

Garcon. Goodwin. Taylor. Bourne. Pettis. James. This is going to be sick!

JG can hardly contain his joy and doesn't know what to do with himself right now...he's ready to bust one
TC news gonna be so much fun this year. Holy s**t!

If Pettis beats press coverage in camp, it would be our CB sucking lol

Hopefully he doesn't get bullied by Sherman too hard. Poor guy.
