Yes. But then how bout trade down. We can get mcg at 40 plus have an extra pick for a sleeper we like.
Could have had van der esch minka poo instead of mcg at 9.
the story they're sticking to is that the Raiders would've taken McG. i don't buy it. if anything, praage was demanding too much from the cardinals to trade up and they told us to go f ourselves.
Maybe this will help dealing with the pick(i know it's helped me)
If we trade down with Arizona and Oakland takes McGlinchey at 10 then we may do what they did and take Miller at 15 which is an AWFUL decision. And it would also mean if Rosen ends up being a franchise QB(which I'm afraid he may) we'd be the ones handing him to Arizona. They still got him but at least not from us.
I knew when Denver took Chubb we were fuked.

Okay, not a sexy or even popular pick but this is a very, very SOLID pick. A very good one. The thing with McGlinchey is he can come right in and be an upgrade for us at guard and can of course also play RT if Trent Brown does not get his act together and down the road he can replace Staley at LT. 3 years from now we will be praising this pick. He's a big, strong, nasty blocker who is a good scheme fit and will be a top run blocker for us for years to come. Very good, clean player. I really like the pick, especially since the Raiders were going to take him at 10 and had to reach on Miller at 15.

This. We had an absolutely terrible O-line for years. We invest in Jimmy G, so we invest in O-linemen. It's not rocket science.

Nothing like spending the 9th overall pick to maybe marginally upgrade your 7th round starting RT from 4 years ago.
All we need is a few more miracles from the Patriots traded our way and we should be back in the playoffs in no time!

Would not be surprised if Brown is not dealt until TC/preseason due to not being 100% right now.
This is Kyles year to pick. John got his rocks off last year in the first round.
I can see the sense in this pick. It gives McGlinchey time to adjust properly and learn steadily from Joe before Joe is cut/retires.
Watched the clips of his drafting - the kid was in tears. Livin the dream

He's a plug and play RT, I don't think he's gonna he a pro bowler or anything.
I will say this draft up to really wasn't amazing and I don't know about the "injury red flags" on Landry. I think we gotta try to use brown and our 3rd to move up for someone.
FYI we now have 5 1st rd picks on that OL
Lol I'm ok with it, but you can feel my cynicism.
Honestly if we draft the best guard available tonight I will feel better, because then it tells me they are simply and seriously just trying to make the o-line as deadly as possible now and deal with the rest of the Swiss cheese later.

As our pick was getting closer, I began to narrow down who was left and figured McGlinchey made the most sense with our horrible O-Line play. I hate the term "reach". Seems like most people automatically expect offensive lineman to have nowhere near the value of any other position. I'm a happy camper with this pick and fully expect it to pay dividends immediately. Well done Lynch.

This. Now we can run to both sides of the field we can do all kinds of things with this offense

Brown is good in pass defense, but godawful in the run game (and our rushing attack was terrible last year).
Toss in the fact that he reported out of shape to the recent mini camp and the pick makes sense.
I'd like to see Garappolo upright with a clean jersey.

we have Sherman, Khello, Ward and Williams who can play CB, plus there are still a few decent CBs left as it's a deep draft in that postion.
Prior to yesterday we had more depth at DB than at T.
I think we did think outside the box.
I see how you're thinking about it, but all those players you name not one of them is quality material and they all had horrible years tackling last year. Horrible. I just think that needs to be addressed somehow. If you look at everybody's top 50 picks there's about 3 or 4 CBS listed before MC G I hope this guy takes it to the next level in this league and by Next Level I'm talking top 30 tackle not all pro.

I was in shock but I had hoped the Isaih Wynn was like by Shanhan and drafted to play guard and tackle in emergencies. As for Mike every time I saw him I asked myself why he is not rated higher he has good technique and plays hard on every down. OL is never a sexy pick early but usually they end up being good starters for teams that draft them. Garnett was the only OL drafted in round 1 that I thought we were over drafting. Mike leadership sounds a lot like Staley and gets to learn from him for a year or two. Look at Cleveland, Joe Thomas decided to retire and the browns will have to draft Conner Williams early today rather than take bpa. Never want to have to replace OT in desperation.
