The timing is interesting....

I wonder if we where targeting his replacement in the draft, but couldn't get him?

just a weird time to get a deal done.

Not a weird time, they had till Monday to exercise his 5th-year option, they had already acknowledged that they were picking McGlinchey's option up. Heck the Ravens just officially exercised Lamar Jackson's yesterday, so not a weird time.

Look for a much-improved player this year.

Except little brother can actually teach big brother how to pass protect.

...and that might be a part of it as well. My point is about how chemistry works. Clearly Mc had very little to work with the past two years. RG was a mess.

Nice. I think MM will have a bounce back year.

I know he will. And now he has a Notre Dame buddy that will help him anchor down that right side.

This is where I'm hoping for a draft day trade.

Trading for a quality OT is one of the most difficult to do. No one lets them go. Trent Williams is a good example. He wanted to test FA because no one of his quality had been allowed to get that far in the past decade.

We already have a player on the team who can adequately replace McG and he's proven it already. McG isn't $4M better than Brunskill at tackle.

I won't argue the value of $4M because the price doesn't matter. The key point is that we are now getting a 5th-year rookie contract value and do not have to worry about drafting a guy who might be an improvement. With McGlinchey, we know we have one of the top 3 best run blockers in the league. With the RG spot locked down, he will be able to focus on improving his PP. The first responsibility of an OT is to not get beat on the inside. Over the past two years, that was a constant problem. Now it is not.

I love Brunskill for his versatility across the line. He is a good pass protector but not close to Mc in run blocking. Just having him available to fill in at a moment's notice across the OL is a great asset to the team. Plug him in at RT on a full-time basis and now you have to replace him.

Obviously, I support the move and believe time will prove it correct.

The timing? Its after year 3. Its part of the CBA. What's weird about it?

Blaming McGlinchy is kind if short sighted. Yeah he looked weak this year but he was also playing next to a revolving door of scrubs last year at guard and center. Hopefully now with his gigantic, old linemate on the team he'll have some consistency. He knows he has to improve and he's still young. He wasn't bad his rookie year but last year he didn't get much help on that line

He was bad one on one, dude had no strength

Yeah. Consistently losing one on one battles to so many opponents was embarrassing. Even LBs. Everyone. It had absolutely nothing to do with the RG. If we expect the RG to help our RT or is the reason MM fails miserably then we are in trouble.

MM had elite run blocking grades. I suppose that's the RGs fault too?

there is little to no excuses for MM. No logic to that unless it's miscommunication or MM peeling of his man to help the RG which doesn't happen much at all.

That's like deciding between 4 ugly chicks. Yeah big deal we have the butterface in the group.

Can extend it to the NFL. I'm no MM fan, but he's not in the bottom 3rd of right tackles. Hopefully he can at least be average at pass protection.
