Looking at the new 5th yr option scale McG would get $10.8M on that deal. Not awful and worth tagging (only gtd for injury).

Spending $11M on this turd would be insane.
But it's the kind of stupid decisions you can expect from this FO.

Do I think he can get better as a 49er? No. Why? Our new OL coach who just sucks at developing pass-protecting skills. That being said, I think we should not pick up McG's 5th year option at $10.8M, let Brunskill play RT (which he's good at anyway). Let Shon Coleman be the new swing, draft our starter for RG and draft a future star at C while we bring in a vet like Mack to help train/develop the center and trade McG to a team like the Packers. This gives us more cap to keep FA and possibly bring in another key piece and potentially gives us more options in the draft like packaging even more picks to move up to take a QB of the future or add more to the secondary or Edge.
I totally agree with everything!

I heard that he played at a lower weight last year. I'm not sure why but I heard he was around 290. That's too light for him. He played at 310 in 2019 and was better. Seems like he could play at 315-320 with no problem.

His whole offseason should be eating and weight lifting. Should put a clause in his deal that he must eat 10 burgers a week.

Agree with you guys, zero chance and they will be doing the 5th year option

I am in agreement. I'd treat it as a prove it year and draft his replacment/competitor to challenge him to get better. More competition means more depth and hopefully more development on both rookie and veteran.

There could be a medical condition which makes it impossible to bulk out. Sayonara.
How long can we put off the decision?

I believe it's early May where we have to make the decision on his 5th year option, and this year is the first year, where if we pick it up, then it is GUARANTEED. In years past, you could pick up the option, and then decline it later if you chose to, now he will know going into the 2021 season, whether or not he will be a FA at the end of the season, or if he is going to have a 10+ million contract guaranteed for 2022. I would lock McGlinchey up for 3-4 more years, but only at a 10 million average, and only guarantee like 2 of the seasons. 10 million is a little low on RT's on their 2nd contracts, and the last thing we want is McGlinchey to all of a sudden show vast improvement in his PP while getting ready for FA, because combining that with his ELITE Run Blocking, he would be quite costly to keep.
Might as well try to get him locked up now before he POPS and gets expensive. If he shows up in camp this year 10-15 pounds heavier than last season, then I would talk extension, if he doesn't, then no thank you.
