Been very happy with McGlinchey's play as a rookie RT. He's going to just get better and better...will be a fixture on the OL for years to come.

Same here. The second I heard the Chris Simms interview, that's when it really hit me. I thought P was messing with us at first but after that interview, I knew it was very very real. I'm never getting upset about adding talent to the OL so I was cool with it.

I still would have held onto Brown too to make MM "earn it" and for security and to give him a year to work back from surgery and work out at LT. Ya never know? The last two times he was challenged he beat out Anthony Davis and became the LT for Tom Brady. LOL. Not bad. But I certainly understood the scheme-fit issue; just wished we would have used his pick (or another) on OL.

He's been very up and down as Brady's LT, clearly doesn't fit in this system here. Letting him or Mike sit the bench for a yr doesn't seem like a smart way to spend a top 10 pick.

Gotta move on brown is gone and I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up somewhere else besides NE next yr. kid wants big bucks and NE isn't all about that

No issues in trading talent for scheme fit. Just in depth...should either Staley or MM go down.

I remember that during the game. Dude loves chucking those smaller players to the ground.

Which is a key reason that Shon Coleman was brought in.

Trading Brown also sends the message that if you screw around, you won't be on the team anymore.

It's not just a scheme fit though. The talent is comparable between the 2, with MM having a much higher ceiling imo.

No offense but I don't feel comfortable with Garry Gilliam and Shon Coleman backing up Staley or MM. Despite the long term contract for Gilliam, I'm hoping Shon csn pass him up on the depth chart soon. But I'm not sure how that can happen without a pre season to compete.

A little too early to make that claim but that certainly is the hope; that not only is it a better fit but that he reaches his full ceiling.

Tomlinson made it work last season. Coleman has been on the roster for a month now and has starting experience. He was seen as one of the top tackles in his draft class, still some upside there.

Only if you're looking strictly at pass blocking.

McGlinchey right now is a far better run blocker than Brown has ever been. Where Brown was pretty passive in the run game, McGlinchey goes out looking for someone to smash. He finishes blocks and when he gets done with one guy he goes looking for more work.

Brown was a terrible scheme fit, so his ceiling in this offense was limited compared to McGlinchey, that one is obvious. But Brown is also limited by his weight problem, which makes him a piss-poor run blocker, so I can see McGlinchey having a higher ceiling overall as a tackle.

I really hope Coleman is active over Gilliam this week.

Nothing run specific, but this is nice to see. His time spent at RG brings his overall rating down, but he's still doing well.

Good call.

we will need to look for McG's replacement for when Staley retires and McG moves to LT.

I'll take a 3rd round pick vs a depth OT.
