I got to learn how to do this. Too much cherry picking going on by a few on this forum. You can take small clips of almost anything and write a narrative. That's how a number of gaming commercials are made.

I expect Mcglichy to make good plays, but he flops a decent amount too. I hope he gets better, but no doubt Trent is superior. You can see Mcglichy struggling to block. Trent made it look effortless.

What is cherry picking? The outside zone is an essential staple of this offense, if you don't have a tackle that can get to the second level consistently, you can't run it. What McGlinchey showed is that he's capable of handling the bread and butter of this offense in the run game.

He's a rookie, he's going to be up and down but he's already a better run blocker than Brown ever was.

Some people will refuse to believe he's a better fit and has actually played well, simply because they didn't like the draft pick...he clearly belongs and isn't a liability at all.

I wasn't a fan of the pick at first but I'm not gonna try and find every little reason to prove why he shouldn't have been the pick.

Brown is a good fit for what New England runs, McGlinchey is a better fit in this offense. As time goes on and McGlinchey gains experience, he'll continue to improve as a run and pass blocker.

I liked Brown, but once he showed up at 380+ pounds, it seems clear that ShanaLynch were ready to move on. Ultimately in this offense you need two tackles who can really move and regularly get out to the second level. That is just what McGlinchey did against Detroit.

Dude balled out vs Detroit.

These blocks right here, this is the stuff that Trent Brown was incapable of doing, that helps make this run game go. When everyone does their job, this is what the Shanahan run game is supposed to look like.

Here McGlinchey gets to the second level and takes out the LB and holds his block long enough for Breida to get by. McGlinchey then ran down the field looking to deliver one last block down near the endzone, arriving just as Breida was about to get in. Impressive.

I'm just reporting what I saw rewatching the first half of the first quarter. I don't know how to create clips like the one above, but if I did I would show you what was clearly two poor plays fairly close together. I don't take pleasure in watching our top pick look silly. The pics above look pretty good, but consistency is everything. I hope he develops.

Rookie linemen will always be up and down. It is part of the normal learning process. What McGlinchey has already proven is that he is capable of doing everything that this offense demands. He has the skillset, he has the athleticism, as he gains experience he will get better and better.

Ryan Ramczyk of New Orleans last year is a great example. He struggled mightily the first 6 or 7 games, by the end of the season he was playing like one of the best tackles in football as a rookie.
Stock up. Going to be a fine 10+ year NFL OT
You all realize that the other teams players get paid too, right? The best players in history have all been beat or lost match ups. The difference is the great ones win more than they lose. To spotlight a win or a loss on a single play, and then make an over all judgement on the players ability, is naive to say the least.

Agree

And then some.

We still need another starting caliber OT to fill in for McG when he moves over to LT when Joe says Adios.

If you can get another season out of Staley after this one then they'll be in a better spot to take a developmental tackle in the upcoming draft. Also the possibility that Shon Coleman develops into something useful.
Joe isn't going anywhere next yr....he wants that ring. We need 4 pieces to fulfill that. If so, he has a good chance of getting his shot. Plus the 18 starters here this yr get one more yr to bond and figure out who is where and when. They better know why.

It'll be a sad day when Joe Staley is no longer the 49ers starting LT.

This is my thought. I think if he's still playing well and this team is a playoff/SB contender in 2020, he's here. It'll buy us some time because I'm not expecting us to spend a top pick on a tackle next year. Too many other needs. But going into 2020, we should be able to use a 1st or 2nd on a OT.
