Sucks that the other guy left their podcast. He was the more knowledgeable one.

Ah yes...Mr. David 'PFF' Neumann.

I guess I have a hard time when someone pulls one clip of a player not dominating his guy and qualifying an entire half's performance. I understand some of these twitter guys need to get stuff out there to satisfy followers but some of this stuff is just too nitpicky and pulls too many things out of context.

I know when I do my film breakdowns I dont start cutting up any plays until I have watched the entirety of the game film and usually have watched most plays 3-4 times so that you get a firm understanding of where the problems were and which were consistent.

Every player is going to have a bad play or two in a game - it's just the way it is. I could pull up clips of Staley missing blocks, getting blown back in PP or false starting. No player ever has a perfect game. The question is - how consistent are they and how consistently good?

One of my frustrations during Harbaugh's last year was that it wasn't one or two or 3 guys who were consistently messing up, it would be almost every player on different plays and so there was no simple solution. you had each guy messing up 4-5 times a game.

Last year you could easily see that QB was a weak spot for a good bit of the season. You could easily see D. Johnson was a weak spot. You could see these things because they were apparent on film over and over again. Not just one bad play here or there but you could see a bunch of plays throughout a game. It was consistent.

What I've seen of McG so far is pretty darn good. If our RT, "doesn't look very good" yet our RB can get over almost 5 YPC and look like Morris did in that game - that's not too bad at all.

I agree my man. Also pointed out those plays didn't even have an effect on the runs. ofcourse you always wanna see your guys execute but you're not always gonna win them all in the trenches. If they don't every guy is an all pro.

He's not gonna be perfect but pass pro is strong early IMO which is great to see for all those worried over the loss of Brown.

I agree. I think regular season is 30% to 50% more intense than pre-season, so in the first regular season game, he'll make some mistakes, and I hope Kittle and Celek are available to help him out in the passing game, that first game. But once he gets his feel for the regular season game, and if by luck we make it into the playoffs, then he'll have more learning in the playoffs. Those are probably another 50% more intense than regular season, and then finally the Super bowl is even more intense than the playoffs. Hope he has that opportunity this year to do all that learning.
I guess that they gave Brown to the Pats as pay back for the Jimmy G trade, otherwise it makes no sense. Brown is on a cheap rookie contract and perhaps the best pass protector in the NFL. He's only 9 months older than McGlinchey and Brown is a much better player. Trading him was not a good move by Shanahan/Lynch. Below is an article from today...

"Trent has some dynamic skills, and he's working hard to be a really good player on every down. This is a really compliant guy," Scarnecchia said. "You say, 'Hey Trent, we got to' and he'll do it. He wants to be better. You can't ask for more than that." "He definitely has the skills to play out there. There's no doubt," Scarnecchia said. "He's long, he's big, he's a powerful guy. Brown's rookie contract was up and the FO didn't trust him enough to pay him. McG is on a 5 year rookie deal and is looking good so far.

Bingo!

Yep, Brown stepped up after he got traded because he knows he's not guaranteed a big contract. Plus Shannys system has a lot more horizontal line movement which Brown isnt a good fit for.

1. They simply didn't trust him to pay him. He has shown up every year since his rookie year significantly over weight. Once you pay him starting tackle money with large guarantees how are they supposed to make sure he does his job?
2. Supposedly he didn't watch any film. I heard this on knbr by maiocco on Monday. So take it with a grain of salt because I didn't find a link.
3. He wasn't a great fit in the run game, specifically reach blocking. He doesn't have the lateral quickness that is desirable for this.

While he can be an elite tackle, he didn't fit the scheme perfectly and you would be rewarding someone with poor work ethic in a young locker room, the optics are terrible on that. I wish him the best and do hope he becomes what he is capable of becoming, but it wasn't going to happen here. i think it was the right decision by Lynch and Shanny. The patriots vet locker room and staff have been able to get him on the right path, and plus the burn of the niners not paying him should light a fire under his ass. Niners shouldn't have to do that though, being a professional and getting paid should be motivation enough.

Also, Brown is a better tackle at the moment than McGlinchey. Though I think inevitably McGlinchey will be the better overall tackle, due to his combination of work ethic and ability. He will inevitably struggle this year due to the level of edge defenders he will be facing, its pretty much guaranteed. Be patient and give it time before you start calling him a bust. He's looked good this preseason for the most part, and while I was critical of this pick because of my own bias towards other players, I think its a wise investment.
Ironically, Big Mike has been much better in PP than run blocking thus far. You'd think it would be reversed but that's the beauty of being a rookie. He's probably been heavily focused on PP as that is a weaker element to his game and we're going to be facing some fierce pass rushers right out of the gate. And still, the running game here is heavily detailed and you can see he's just a little off on his assignments and techniques. It'll come though; just gotta be patient!

I stand corrected...it was Richburg. McG had a good game, and was not the culprit of the two fouls stacked upon one another. Mea culpa. I'm getting too old too fast.

Richburg's penalty was meant for McG. IIRC RIchburg actually makes a clean block, McG had his arms on the outside of his guy keeping him from turning but the ref called it on Richburg who disagreed prompting something along the lines of "lame a$$ zebras" to a ref and gets the second penalty.

Thanks Rick...shoot , now i;m not sure WTF i saw. I highly doubt i saw the foul on McG but they called it on Richburg . I guess it could have happened, but honestly, not having taped the game, I dunno. Odds are pretty good i meant to say Richburg, and then muffed that. But thanks, Rick. If there is a gif, i would love to see it...and that probably means Thl or Hero. I am curious what exactly i saw for the foul. For the 2nd penalty, there I just confused McG for Richburg. I thot he was telling the ref how good his new shoes looked.

....Nah, maybe not.
