Entertaining game, however, more than a whole generation will never know what good Defense means or looks like. Thinking back Defenses used to have nicknames, the Monsters of the Midway, Steel Curtain, Doomsday Defense, Purple People Eaters, the Sack Exchange, the Grits Blitz, Looney Tunes (you'll have to be a fanatic to remember them), the Orange Crush Defense, Fearsome Foursome, you get the idea. Is there any Defense in the last 5 to10 years that had that kind of recognition? I got this sinking feeling watching this SB that I was watching half a game. Ironically the play that won the game was done on Defense.

So true. Such a watered down product. Then again, neither team had a pass rush. That was the main issue.

Legion of Boom comes to mind. That Broncos D was lights out also. Great defenses do come around but they don't stick around very long. And with the rule changes directed at getting more scoring it is far more difficult to have a shut down D.

I agree with you and I'm also relieved that, for the most part, the refs didn't decide the game for Brady. I don't think the Pats should have advanced beyond the AFC Championship Game, given those very questionable late calls (don't the late calls always save the Pats?) against the Jags. I've had my fill of Tom Terrific, just as non-49er fans (is there such a thing?) became as sick whenever the Niners won the big game during the glory years. The only difference between those 49er and Patriots teams, imo, is that the 49er defense is responsible for at least two of those rings. As for Brady? He was off all game. It seemed as if nearly every throw fluttered and hung in the air for far too long. He should have been picked off three times. Super Bowl jitters from the Eaglet Defense? Perhaps. I think Philly will be back. I think Doug Pederson is fine coach. I think he's built a fine team. The only thing that can stop them are QB issues and whether Wentz can return to pre-injury form. If he can? The Eagles will be a very hard team to beat in the coming years.
Shots fired at Jeff Fisher.

Pederson told Peter King after the game that if you want to play it safe all the time, that's a great way to be at or near .500 all the time. If you want to win a championship, you need to try some high-risk, high-reward plays.

"You learn if you play passive, if you play conservative, if you call plays conservatively, you are going to be 8-8, 9-7 every year," Pederson said.

Most of those defenses you mentioned were pre salary cap era. Rule changes and CTE aside, its just not possible to keep a whole defense together for very long. You have success, guys go out and get paid and suddenly your depth is gone and next thing you know you're having to cut guys ala Denver.

If you can find the right QB, you can continually build and rebuild the roster around them.
The Pats were gashing Phillys D on some of their runs, that slow down Phillys pass rush. With 2:21 left in the game, when they know Pats not gonna run the ball, they got the turn over with that lone sack. Pats did a good job staying the Eagles pass rush with their complimentary run game.

Eagles weakness is the inconsistent run D

Chirs Collinsworth needs to go! My gosh he's horrible.

Now here's a guy
Was it me or did they cut the ceremony short?
The loss of Brandon Cooks completely changed this game. Eagles played physical, and Foles was fantastic. Well-deserved MVP and win. They made the plays they needed to make. Great game called by Pederson. They had to be nearly flawless to win and they did their job. GREAT game!

You're right put Tony Romo back in.

I thought he was going to quit when they didn't overturn that touchdown. What a jackass. I hope they bring it back to old rules cause bothe of those plays were touchdowns in my book. Glad they called it right and minimal referee interference.

I cannot belive how well Foles played. He was a beast.
Still a huge grin on my face. So happy Brady and Bill lost.
