Which of these teams made the biggest mistake letting go of their successful head coach?:

Harbaugh knew this roster was done in 2014. He knew Kaepernick couldn't develop into a good passer. He knew the defenses days were numbered.

He picked the wrong QB. He also picked the wrong OC but that's the style of football he wanted to play. Control time of possession, limit turnovers on offense and destroy teams via defense and rushing.

Only way Harbaugh could get to the superbowl again was if he fired Roman and hit on a good passing QB in the draft. By the time 2014 came around his magic was done. The great defense was on the way out of the door. The QB was getting exposed in the pocket. Even if Ballke and York loved him we'd still be in a hole. If we kept Harbaugh for another 3 years we'd probably be a 7-9, 8-8 and 6-10 team for 2015/2016/2017. Then we'd have to do a total rebuild eventually after some blah seasons.

Biggest mistake the 49ers made was keeping Baalke and putting this full blown rebuild off 2 seasons. We should've done this full blown rebuild in 2015. Harbaugh or no Harbaugh. If we fired Ballke and Roman then hit on a QB in the draft he could've had a shot.

Anyway, I voted Dallas. Johnson built a real dynasty there and they could've kept it going another 5-6 years with him. That wasnt going to happen here with Harbaugh. Harbaugh did a great job with a great defense and run game (that was handed to him). Can't take that away from him. Players bought in for 2-3 seasons. He was a good motivator.
Jimmy Johnson built the Cowboys in the early 90s DYNASTY and they continue to live off those teams reputations despite being an average franchise since 97.

Harbaugh had a good 3-year run but he couldn't win one, nobody will remember him or those teams unless compared to early 90s Bills & 2000s Eagles

Yep +1
Thats the problem sometimes when you strike when the irons hot.. Doesn't mean itll last long lol. Atleast that's what ive noticed with chicks and Harbs lately
Sucks we have to be on this list of historically dumb moves. Thanks jeddy.
Cowboys without a doubt in my mind. Thankfully Jerry Jones ego was bigger than his brain.

Got to be the Raiders. Gruden went to Tampa and stomped the Raiders in the SB.
The 49ers and Raiders fared far worse, but the reality is with the 49ers, we were going to go down as others have pointed out. There was virtually NO talent coming in through the draft. Harbaugh should consider himself lucky to have gotten out when he did. The Raiders were already old and there was no QB number 1, to replace Gannon who was already near 40 if not already 40, replacing the receivers, etc.

I voted for those Cowboys though. Out of all of the teams that beat us in the championship games in the 90s, the Cowboys were the only ones I actually thought were better than us. I still think we would've gotten that 1994 Super Bowl, but the Cowboys would have went on a serious run and we would've had to hear that Troy Aikman is a better QB than Joe Montana around 96/97.

So true, I just don't understand Jed's thinking. Harbaugh had experience finding talent both for his dad's college team and then as a college coach. So why not give him control over his roster? Especially after Baalke failed to bring in talent draft after draft, seemed like an easy fix to me.

You mean the one that almost single handedly got him to a SB (See NFCCG against Atlanta) and then almost won said SB?

Yea that was the wrong QB LOL

Maybe he should have kept the guy that lost to the Giants yesterday?

How can anyone get better while being surrounded by inferior talent each year via Baalke?

That's like saying; why aren't we good right now? I mean, we were in the Super Bowl 3-4 years ago, right?
