Is this really a negotiation tactic and if so is it really effective. Ask yourself, would you really want to give a huge contact to someone that only wants to be here for the money?

How hard is it for Jimmy to say, " I love it here. I love the fans. It's great weather and the Niners have a rich history of winning." " I'd love to be here long term."

Would that really put him at a disadvantage in contact negotiations. I certainly don't think so. If anything he is gaining leverage with the fans and putty pressure on the Niners FO. With his current non-commital stance Niners FO could easily say Jimmy's heart wasn't here and we couldn't sign him.

I've listened to a number of his post game interviews. He's polished and polite, but if you read through the lines you can also see he's confidence is boarderine arrogant. I think you'll see it as time goes on.

I've been saying it for a while, he's an east coast guy with no west coast ties. He's not in awe of the Niners since he didn't grow up here and was a Pat.

Look, is very simple, the guy is just being professional.

He is finishing his rookie contract and about to get paid big time and by God he has earned it.

And don't forget he has an agent, Don Yee probably told him just be professional, indifferent and say we will handle contract talks only when the season is over.

So, what is wrong with that?

Are you telling me that Jimmy is not allowed to entertain other offers?? Would you not even look at other offers on the table if you were Jimmy? What if the 9ers were to low-ball him? You have to make sure you are signing the best deal out that.

So, the word "non-committal" is really not right, "indifferent" perhaps, but only he has to be.

Jimmy knows he can be successful here. Niners will probably come out with a strong offer and have the cap room to match or beat any competing offer, plus they have the franchise tag. Jimmy isn't going anywhere.

He was going to play this season one way or another. Beathard's injury just sped up the timeline.

Tiki Barber is an idiot.

If this is true then obviously I was DEAD WRONG. I'm inclined to believe the story.

With that said, its still a little puzzling he has been more vocal about his love for a team and fan base that will soon be his for the next 10 years.

The other thing I would say is why was he "euphoric?" That fact is he was going to a bottom feeder team. Its what was best for the Pats. You have to believe you would much rather be a Niner than a Brown. He may of just been happy because he would get a decent chance to shine with the coaching staff, but for all we know he sees us as a good stepping stone and not the long term answer.

Bottom line, I wont be secure until he inks his deal.

He hasn't even been offered a contract yet. I wouldn't commit either until I start hearing some numbers first. Its just business...

Praying they don't put Jimmy on the cover of Madden.

To say that Jimmy should have sat this season? What are you smoking?
Guys, Jimmy isn't going anywhere. In spite of him likely getting the money he wants, getting paired with an innovative offensive mind, living in a desirable area, and winning, he couldn't leave if he wanted to. We'd franchise tag him this year, transition tag him next year, and match any offer. Those who are afraid he's leaving need to calm down. The franchise tag is built to prevent franchise QB's from leaving.

I agree - I just don't like him rocking the boat.

Watched the Jags-49ers tape to get a look at QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The quick release and ball placement really jump out. Accurate throws. And that's been pretty consistent in his four starts. The mobility, too. Garoppolo can make some plays off the boot or extend the pocket, just as he did on that TD pass to WR Trent Taylor. Garoppolo also displayed the ability to move defenders with his eyes. This allowed him to create those small windows inside of the numbers — key vs. zone coverage. And we saw that on the red zone TD throw to TE George Kittle. Small sample size here for sure with Garoppolo. But his skill set is a really good fit for Kyle Shanahan's play calling and the offensive system in San Francisco.

Thats what greg cosell has been saying all along too, Jimmy G is a great fit for kyles system, even before jimmy started running it.

Totally agree!
I think I've pinched myself at least 3 times today to make sure I'm not dreaming. If he's as good as he's shown in the last several games, we literally could be Superbowl contenders for the next decade or so, baring injury or York going full tard.

I know york got some heat in the past, maybe we should give him some props for stepping aside letting the football minds go to work.

Tiki Barber is an idiot.

What do you expect from someone who retires, only to have his former team win a super bowl the very next season. All sour grapes.
