the browns paid 10 million of baker mayfield's salary for a 4th or 5th round pick. i don't know why niner fans think we have to beat the sh# out of every team in a trade. this trade works for everyone ... give a litlle to get a little ...capice

We've got guys looking to get paid next year. I wouldn't pay any of his salary.

lol what is the logical conclusion? if they wait until hes cut, itll be harder to "acquire" him
Brwons would be the best Qb needy team to go to in FA

I don't understand how people don't understand that tartt carries a lot of the blame. Haha. It was a can of corn pop fly with 9:50 left. We were up 17-14 and the Rams scored after the dropped pick. An interception at the time changes the entire flow and psychology of the game. It puts the defense on the sidelines resting up for the next series rather than on the field getting more reps. It gives the offense a psychological boost running on the field knowing the cam out the game away. It changes Kyle's mind set when calling plays. It puts the rams defense back on the field causing them to have that many more reps for the end of the game. There are 1 to a handful of plays in playoff games that creates the flow of the game and that was one of them. You can point to deficiencies on every unit during that game including the Qb but to deny that that dropped interception didn't have massive repercussions on the remainder of the game is laughable.
If we were going to pay him, we should have just released him a long time ago and ate that $7.5 million injury clause. I am pretty sure they made it clear they weren't paying any of it when they gave teams permission to negotiate with his agent and not through them.

Baker's money was GTD. Jimmy's is not....it's not even close to the same situation.

who the hell knows what jimmy wants. we do know that cleveland is tied to watson long term. he could just as easily go to seattle and have success throwing to metcalf and lockett and want to stay there.

Jimmy knows he will not see that 26 million and so does his agent. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand that.
I remember Greg Pappa a couple of weeks saying that the Browns were absolutely interested in trading for Jimmy (reliant on Watson suspension length) said he spoke to someone that is in the know and called a tweet saying they were not interested a flat out lie.
Unless the browns are giving us like two seconds I'm not paying no $10m of his $$. It's great if we get a late round pick, better than nothing, but not if it means we pay a bunch of $$. Not worth it and we aren't exactly hurting for late round draft capital

Yes, I would trade a day 3 pick if Jimmy assured CLE a playoff spot. I'm not sure he guarantees them a playoff spot.

I'd argue that he does far moreso than any QB available to them currently. They can play it out, wait until he's cut and hope that some other team doesn't throw a 2 or 3 year deal at him first. Or they can trade a pick that they'll never miss for a guy who has shown himself to at least be a capable starter in the same offense.

I also think he helps PR-wise. They go from all the Watson drama to Nice Guy Jimmy who may bang pornstars from time to time but at least it's consensual and he takes them out for a romantic dinner beforehand.

No doubt he is the best available QB for CLE. I don't think there's a team out there that would give Jimmy a multiyear. From Jimmy's perspective, he should want to go to CLE and be willing to take less in 2022 (from CLE) so he can set himself up for free agency 2023. But that's a gamble he needs to be willing to take, if those are his options. I don't see ATL or SEA offering him a multiyear, but that's just speculation on my part.
I get what you're saying. A day 3 pick is chump change and it gets Jimmy in CLE immediately. Have a deal in place to rip up his $25 contract and go with something that makes more sense. Is that possible (for CLE to rip up his $25 contract)?

I agree. Don't pay a dime. Let them restructure. At this Jimmy being off the team and books is all we need. Any compensation is gravy

for real...that $25M doesn't exist anymore....it's fake. He isn't playing anywhere at that price regardless if he's traded or cut. The benefit of getting traded is getting into a camp now vs waiting until everything is done and you have to scramble to get him ready. I remember a report months ago saying Jimmy's camp was willing to negotiate to help facilitate a trade. NFL reports a couple weeks ago said SF gave them freedom to speak with other teams as well.

What should matter MORE to Jimmy is his 2023 contract and what team can help him get the most cash as possible at that point. Browns make the most sense currently

Awful trades are called out often on here. Sorry
