All you have to do is look at Kyle's other QB's and how robotic they are to find your answer. The one outlier is Matt Ryan, but he had arguably the best offensive weapons in the NFL and undoubtedly the best WR at that time. And Kyle wasn't the head coach, so not fully in charge of everything.

YPA is a hollow stat. It doesn't take out YAC. Jimmy was 2nd in the league in YPA this yr lol.

7 TDs & 5 INTs aint exactly HOF-type production.
Not impressed on those stats, I was more impressed on jimmy keeping the drives going and in rhythm with the 3rd down conversions

jimmy really transcended the OL

Kyle also coached the gunslinger out of him, he loves robot QB's. He'll try to do the same to Trey, hopefully Trey is strong enough mentally to resist. Jimmy wasn't.

Throwing a lot of interceptions doesn't make you a gunslinger.

Do you even watch football, man? Good lord lol

Do you? Calling Jimmy, a QB who rarely throws outside the hashes or more than 12 yards down the field and only ever to wide open guys, a gunslinger… unbelievable. Again, the only gunslinger quality that Jimmy has is that he turns the ball over a lot.

I don't take much out of a 5 game sample-size against mostly bottom feeders and back-up defenses. Jimmy has always had a high YPA, but low Air Yards per Attempt, because his receivers do all the work.

If number one's covered and there's a lane wide open and he just doesn't hesitate and hits it and moves the chains, then I hope he does that. There's that element and when you have that skill asset of moving the ball with your feet, it's a great bonus and anytime something happens you want him to do that. And that's the fine line of people playing this position.

A lot of times when people don't know they're not developed enough at quarterback and they have that option, they're going to always go to it. It's so cool to have that option, but that also doesn't allow you to get better in the other area, so that's what he has to find in his game, but the whole point is moving the chains.

We might call a play, number one's wide open he doesn't throw it, you might be upset, but when it ends with the first down, you're quickly over it.

Lol I was just gonna post this. This was from a presser this week.

There's a comment after the game when josh Allen just smoked SF regarding being able to create out of structure and how it's a necessity in todays game. He drafted Lance hello lol.

the whole he wants a robot and is trying to take the gunslinger out of any QB is fake news. He talks about John Elway with his dad and he sure as s**t wasn't a robot QB. Young wasn't either and he saw that first had as a kid.

I think it had more to do with Jimmy tearing his ACL than anything else. Jimmy was running with the ball early 2018 as well. Until of course he tore his ACL.

I agree the ACL injury had a lot to do with it, that was the original post in this exchange. I was simply adding that Kyle's coaching style added to the move away from what Jimmy was doing in 2017. That's just not how Kyle wants his offense to run. To me it seems like he wants his offense (meaning him) to be the "star," and not the players themselves. Can't always trick the defense, sometimes you just have to line up and let your players beat the other team's players.
oh man this some BS, please show what was different other than jimmy being able to move away from pressure

His yards per attempt went down, and he was forced to throw the majority of his passes from play action, with his back turned to the defense. Most play action passes are designed to get one or maybe two WR's open. If the design doesn't work, there isn't much left for the QB to do besides get sacked or dump it to the RB. Which we saw a ton of from 2018-2021 (not just from Jimmy but our other QB's as well).

So let's just hope that Trey has the balls to fight Kyle on this, and/or hope that his skillset gets Kyle out of his robotic way of coaching and play calling. Let the players make plays!

So Jimmy just needs to be allowed to cook?

His air yards per attempt was 8.3 in 2017, which would have placed him 4th in the NFL.

Again, meaningless 5 game sample size against mostly bottom feeders and backups. His TWP % was off the charts during those games as well, so thankfully he stopped playing like that.

The only team that played backups was the Rams. The Titans finished 9-7, made the playoffs, and had the 13th ranked defense in the NFL. The Bears were 5-11 but had the 10th ranked defense in the NFL. The Jaguars were 10-6, made the playoffs, and had the #2 ranked defense in the NFL. I'll give you the Texans, although that was on the road and Jimmy's first start with the Niners.
