When a need emerges, a deal in which the 49ers eat part of the salary in exchange for gaining a draft pick will be on the table. In the meantime, the 49ers do gain some cap room. A deal will be made along those lines.
unless it's a high draft pick(higher than 3rd) would you make a deal like that.. if not, than just roll over that cash (when cut) and get a big Free agent next year

I would adjust the salary in exchange for a 3rd or 4th round pick. I'm not eating any salary for a 5th round pick or later. I'll take the cap savings now.

Why pay him $27M for nothing? Thats what we would be doing by not cutting him.

If they cut him now they'll have to pay him around $7 million. If they wait until he's healthy then they can cut him without paying him anything.

I am very aware of this. Also that $7M goes away when he signs elsewhere, so it's really not a set in stone $7M.

I'd rather have most of the capspace now so we can sign players rather than have all the capspace later when players might be gone already.

Is that true? If so then yes, he should be cut NOW. Really interested in whether or not they can sign a vet C. Also, what if one of our players go down and we need to sign someone to replace them? Make it happen, Lynch!

It is offset by how much he signs for. So if he Signs a 2 M deal we still eat 5M. And the credit isn't until 2023 so useless to us this year.

I don't see it as useless to this year. Even if we ate the whole injury settlement, it would still leave $20 million to sign players.

At minimum, JG is like a bit of an insurance policy if TL goes down.. imagine if we cut JG then a week later TL goes down.. ppl would rightly be asking what we did that for..

So we should give Jimmy another 27 million next year to sit on the bench again just in case Trey misses some games 2023 also? At some point you have to just let go of fear and let the inevitable take place.

We don't owe him anything until pretty much Week 1.. I'm talking about like if TL goes down in OTA/camp which is taking place now..

Pointless to eat it today when we will be out from under it soon.

But I don't want to add anything to anything

Edit to add Purdy has no gtd cash to speak of not in a serious sense lol he's mr irrelevant.. he just gets paid if he's on roster or practice squad pretty much..
We don't owe JG anything til week 1 he'll be gone before then..

Are we going to tell free agents not to sign any contracts or negotiate with any other teams until Jimmy is able to pass a physical?

Purdy received a signing bonus which will go against the cap..but not much.

But my point is we won't keep 4 QBs..and purdy looks like he will be here.. very least on the PS

We might even sign some late FAs still with question marks at OL..i just can't see wasting 27 mill

We will if he gets injured in TC/pre season. Best to try to tade him when healthy or cut him if we cannot.

FAs pretty much dead. Any FA sitting unemployed for months with every team in the league passing.. there's a reason.

This is why he got told to stay away he's not participating in anything he's on his own

FA is not dead.. there's still cap casualties and surprised cuts when making the final 53

Exactly.. around this time JG will be gone we will be in a drivers seat position.. whatever we don't use here would be rollover..
