We have Staley and Garnett who were 1st rounders. And Trent Brown who is one of the best RT's in the league.
We need a center and a guard to compete with Fusco.
But if we don't have the proper RB the line means nothing.
Laken Tomlinson was a 1st rounder too. Kwame Brown was a 1st rounder. Luke Joeckel and Levi Brown were early 1st round picks.
Draft status means little once you're in the NFL Garnett hasn't shown anything that he can be a good NFL lineman. Hopefully it happens, but if it doesn't happen, especially since he hasn't taken any meaningful football snaps in a year, then I would hope that the 49ers are prepared with suitable options.
Fusco can stay as a backup, right guard should be upgraded. Kilgore and Tomlinson both need to be gone and their spots obviously upgraded.
All I know for certain is that the interior OL is among the worst in football, if not the worst altogether, especially when it comes to run blocking. Staley and Brown are fine but a center needs to be signed in FA and at least two guards need to be acquired through FA and the draft.

Please, Please, Please don't drag your feet resigning him....do it early and lock him down for as many years as he's willing because he's the one.

Saying that he isn't as bad as them isn't saying much. He still isn't very good and should be upgraded, without a doubt.

We need to draft a OT early. We know Staley is retiring in a few years and right now T.Brown is turning into a question mark. The best OT we can draft can also always start inside and rotate out as injuries happen.

So 3 all new starters on the interior Oline??
How do you suggest we do that?

I'm sorry it was Davis that went #7. I think Iupati went #11, too lazy to look up.

If the 49ers plan is for Brown to shift over to the left side, then I can't see them taking a tackle early. We'll know what their plans are if an extension gets done with him.

Much the same way they did this year, just with better players. You can sign a veteran center in FA, you draft a talented prospect to play LG, then you can let Garnett, another draft pick and someone like Fusco have it out and compete for the starting spot at RG.
