Anyone going out on a limb thinking he could get traded today for a 2nd ?

We should keep him to groom Trey, but all the weirdness with the Rodgers trade and teams inquiring about Jimmy, I think there's still a chance he could get moved.

Jimmy for Cam would be an interesting swap if they tossed in a 2nd for example. Would probably have to be timed after June ?

Interesting scenarios but mostly day 3 picks for him:

Not to be playing into hypotheticals too much, but if we go deep in the playoffs and Jimmy balls out, there's absolutely nothing that says we need to move on from him. The Pats didn't move on from Brady when they had Jimmy G and Brady was 37 - when most human beings look like 99.99999999999% of human beings. But, Brady was still balling. Bret Favre kept Rodgers on the bench for 3 years. Montana kept Young on the bench for years.

Not saying Jimmy is any those guys, those are HOF talents. But, if he's playing at that level - you don't move on for a question mark. We've seen that if Jimmy G balls out for years, we can still bring in a nice haul when that rookie hits the end of his deal and we can offer them for trade. Whatever the situation, I believe the net cost of this rookie won't be as high as it seems. We can recoup good picks from either QB we trade when/if that time comes.

My issue with this post is not the comparison of Jimmy to Hall of Famers like Favre or Brady. Its not even your hypothetical of Jimmy playing at a HOF level. Its that you are comparing the 3rd overall pick, a pick we needed to trade significant draft capital to acquire, to a late first round pick and a 2nd round pick.

It was easy for the Packers and the Patriots to hold on to their aging QBs when they didnt have that much invested into their young drafted QB. We on the other hand will have a ton invested in our drafted QB. That is where your comparison doesnt jive.

I disagree(obviously) because if you believe in your system and that your just better QB play from being a competitive playoff team - like in 2019, those firsts are late first round picks. You don't think Jimmy would be worth, at minimum, a high 2nd? Carson Wentz just went for a 2nd and 3rd, Sam freaking Darnold just went for a 2nd, 4th and 6th.

If they believe in Jimmy G as a talent, then you're in a win-win-win scenario. Jimmy plays really well, you go deep in the playoffs and you let your rookie sit and learn - win. Jimmy plays well but the rookie looks even better, you still get a decent return on Jimmy G that isn't too different from a late 1st - win. Jimmy gets hurt, you still have a player more capable than what we've had the past 3 seasons to step in - win.

The only scenario that this isn't a win, is if Jimmy gets hurt and a rookie turns out to be a total bust. That would set the franchise back 3 years.

thoughts now?

Uhhh... A little pre-trade material that's further back or you're (purposely) wasting your time in the archives, tbh.

From the presser, they seemed adamant that they're not trading him unless they get an offer that "blows them away".
I commend Jimmy for the good teammate and manly thing-to-do in calling Lance soon after the selection.
Jimmy should just start the whole year if healthy. It makes the most sense out of anything. I don't understand why people think it should be more complicated.

The fact the FO was so positive about keeping Garoppolo speaks to the fact Lance was the target all along and Shanahan realized it would take time to develop him. Without Jimmy, the Lance pick would have been very shaky.

How many times has Jimmy started a whole year though?

a sign of being a good coach will play it safe so he can have all the excuses in the world if it doesn't work out..

a sign of being a great coach will play the best player(s) that will give his team the chance to win...
