Like i said day one, he will be signed to a long term deal likely before the giants game. They dont want to drag this out.

5 years 108 mil.

At about the same age, Brock got 4 years, $18M/year.

I like to think we could get away with a 5-year, $100M extension before he plays but I doubt it.

And what was the salary cap that year? Jimmy G will get more, way more, than Osweiller did.

This is what's gonna happen. The 9ers will transition tag Jimmy G. And they'll let the market decide what contract he deserves. If it's more thsn what they think theyll let him go and receive a 1st round pick in compensation. However, the it will be an affordable contract for the 9ers to match because of the fact we have the most in cap space by far.

This is what's going to happen. The Niners and Garoppolo's agent are going to work out what the contract will be, incentives and all, and absolutely no outsiders will be allowed a say.

And you don't get compensation on the transition tag.

And unlike many on this board, the team mindset will to be fair, and not lowball their franchise player.

Transition tag will not happen because you give up control at that point. You might match a contract based on the money but a desperate team can load it up with all sorts of unfavorable terms to screw you down the road.

Cleveland and Alex Mack is a great example of what can go wrong when using the transition tag. Cleveland matched the long term contract offered to Mack by Jacksonville but the contract also included an early player opt out and a prohibition against using the franchise tag. A couple of years later and Mack is playing for the Falcons.

Marathe is still the EVP of Football Ops and in charge of contracts. Hopefully he will do whatever Lynch and Shanny think are best.
I don't see Marathe undermining Lynch.

Marathe will negotiate the contract, with no significant input from Lynch and Shanny other than to get him signed with a view he's our long term franchise player. When it's done, Lynch and Shanny will be happy.

There is zero chance Garoppolo takes a Brock Osweiler deal. None. He knows the market will easily pay him in the 20s. Why would he take a discount?

Can only see an Osweiler-like deal if nearly all of it is guaranteed.

What team is gonna pay him $20+ million a yr? Just because your a qb and up for a contract doesn't mean you automatically get top 5 money lol...especially if you have 2 starts under your belt.

I get the value of the position but at some point results are what get you paid.

If I'm jimmy G I'm asking for a shorter deal if I'm not gonna get as much guaranteed money as I want. He's got a chance to get multiple contract through tour his career BUT dude needs to realize that SF needs to pay for other players that will make him better thus getting paid more.

No results needed. Potential will get him paid in the 20s. That and demand.
Niners trading Jimmy G lol shefter trippin

Someone would definitely give him $20+ mil a year. Cleveland certainly would. Arizona and Jacksonville might. I think the Jets definitely would.

I'm sure You're joking but....

He wouldn't sign that without an opt out option after years 3-6 and at that point just make it a four year. One good year starting and he would get PAID so why would he sign that? He's young enough that if he has a successful career he can still get two long term big buck contracts. Maybe a third if he really is something special..... Wouldn't that be nice

No, I was serious, but I think 5 years is more realistic.

We extend him yet?

why would we wanna do that? got to play him extensively, ie kicking the tires, before giving him money.

Like I said who's paying him $20+ million? The browns? They're money ball dudes.

If he plays well he's gonna get multiple contacts through out his career...Why not take a shorter deal, ball out and get top 5 money, you know when your actually a top 5 qb?

Hopefully he's smart enough to realize that money needs to be spread around to get talent which will in turn make him better and garnish him more cash long-term.

Maybe Brady rubbed off a little on him from that aspect lol

He'll be extended very soon.

Depends on the circumstances. Not good because the OL keeps getting blown off the line? Nobody would care.

QB is very much a seller's market in the NFL. Way too few good ones and just the promise of something better will bring beaucoup bucks.

Brady has the luxury of having made a whole lot of money earlier on in his career and being married to a supermodel who is worth even more than he is. I wouldn't consider that a normal template for other QBs.

Honestly that's just speculation...he's played two games lol. A lot of those teams (minus jags) are in a position to draft a qb and I don't think he'd be the only FA QB available this off season.

Regardless, I'm guessing something gets done that's reasonable for both sides or he gets tagged.
