If it's more thsn what they think theyll let him go and receive a 1st round pick in compensation. However, the it will be an affordable contract for the 9ers to match because of the fact we have the most in cap space by far.

I don't know how I feel about this. Letting the market decide, especially one that is QB-desperate, is how you end up inflating the value.

Just sign him. His value is as low as its ever going to be for us right now.

It's pretty well known that Garoppolo is going to start as soon as he learns enough of the playbook. He came to us to start playing. 9er org wants to win now. They are not thinking twice about the draft and they are not going to tank for Barkley. I believe we can win around 3 games with JimmyG which means Barkley will be out of our reach. ShannyLynch do not want to go down in history with such a horrible record. They want to improve upon last year's record. By now, I am probably stating the obvious.

Personally idc if they're worse than last years record because last year was a true lost cause.they tried to salvage what they had from the past couple of years and it obviously didn't work. This year is really about evaluating for the future. I'm sure we will win a game soon, this team has shown that they can at least get close lol.

I wake up and now there's crap like "49ers may still pursue Kirk Cousins"!!! WTF!!! As bad as I wanted Cousins to be reunited with Shanahan, I don't want Kirk Cousins anymore, 49ers HAVE their QBOTF!!! Let Garoppolo learn and grow with Shanahan, it's the best thing for this franchise AND us fans. Let Jimmy G. have his chance to shine, dude deserves it!!!!

If you transition tag a player and refuse to match contracts, then you get ZERO compensation. You're thinking of the Non-Exclusive Tag.

Kirk Cousins ship has sailed, 49ers stumbled upon a great situation with Garoppolo and got his for DIRT cheap. Lets roll with Garoppolo!!!

I'd like to go 7-years, $20M/year. That takes him through his 32 years old.
I'm sure You're joking but....

He wouldn't sign that without an opt out option after years 3-6 and at that point just make it a four year. One good year starting and he would get PAID so why would he sign that? He's young enough that if he has a successful career he can still get two long term big buck contracts. Maybe a third if he really is something special..... Wouldn't that be nice

That will absolutely never happen. Not a chance in hell.

There is zero chance Garoppolo takes a Brock Osweiler deal. None. He knows the market will easily pay him in the 20s. Why would he take a discount?

Can only see an Osweiler-like deal if nearly all of it is guaranteed.

With this team don't be surprised if this happened.

Yeah its not like they have a completely different front office and coaching staff. Lets keep imposing the sins of GMs and coaches past rather than judging these guys on their own merits over time.

but...but...but Jed!

Marathe is still the EVP of Football Ops and in charge of contracts. Hopefully he will do whatever Lynch and Shanny think are best.
I don't see Marathe undermining Lynch.
We extend him yet?

This is what's going to happen. The Niners and Garoppolo's agent are going to work out what the contract will be, incentives and all, and absolutely no outsiders will be allowed a say.

And you don't get compensation on the transition tag.

And unlike many on this board, the team mindset will to be fair, and not lowball their franchise player.

As soon as I start seeing words such as "could", "might", "possibly" then I know it could very possibly, just might be utter BS.

Yup
