One of the funny stories to come out of this is that John Lynch originally asked for Brady according to Jay Glazer.

AFTER Bill shot him down on Garoppolo.
You know what? That's not unreasonable. You can't keep them both.

Patriots fans were kind of expecting Brady to be traded and surprised that instead it was Garoppolo.

To wander slightly off subject for a little, with our line I would have been horrified had it been Brady. I would have wondered if it was a developmental thing for Beathard.

Right now it is all 100% speculation. All I know for certain is that the 49ers gave up a 2nd round pick for a QB that Kyle has liked for a long time and that Jimmy is a terrific fit for a WCO. Those factors can allow one to reasonably conclude that there is a better than average chance of Garoppolo receiving a long term deal with the 49ers.
You stated that perfectly right there because, all the writers are speculating just as we are and hopefully it goes in our favor for once.

Depends on when they asked. If last offseason, perhaps as a bridge QB for a Trubisky or Watson? Maybe they would have gone after QB earlier, I dunno.

Yeah, he blows but the premise that a long term deal is the goal is certainly accurate. An agent always must protect his client.
They may wait to see how the FA market establishes the ceiling in $?

lol, we would have been idiots to trade for Brady, a 40 year old QB, when we have no o-line and are years away from being competitive.

Like i said day one, he will be signed to a long term deal likely before the seattle game. They dont want to drag this out.

At about the same age, Brock got 4 years, $18M/year.
I like to think we could get away with a 5-year, $100M extension before he plays but I doubt it.

It's pretty well known that Garoppolo is going to start as soon as he learns enough of the playbook. He came to us to start playing. 9er org wants to win now. They are not thinking twice about the draft and they are not going to tank for Barkley. I believe we can win around 3 games with JimmyG which means Barkley will be out of our reach. ShannyLynch do not want to go down in history with such a horrible record. They want to improve upon last year's record. By now, I am probably stating the obvious.

I meant after the bye week for clarification. I think the giants game is a bit soon.

This is what's gonna happen. The 9ers will transition tag Jimmy G. And they'll let the market decide what contract he deserves. If it's more thsn what they think theyll let him go and receive a 1st round pick in compensation. However, the it will be an affordable contract for the 9ers to match because of the fact we have the most in cap space by far.

I'd like to go 7-years, $20M/year. That takes him through his 32 years old.
