If he falls on his face you cut bait and have a high draft pick or plenty of cap space to go get Cousins. If he plays decent, you tag him and make him show you he can do it for a whole year. If he does you sign him. If he doesn't you gather draft picks and look to FA and the draft. I think it would be a mistake to throw all our eggs in one basket. Take your time admit when your wrong and build the team right. If we want a franchise qb were going to have to pay. Use that damn cap space for once.
No.
There is no way to "see where he's at" this year, as there is no way he becomes comfortable in this complex offense that soon. Seeing where he's at will be seeing how quickly he is learning it, and you can even do that in practice. Jimmy Garoppolo is not going to feel comfortable being tested this soon when he will clearly not feel he can run this offense like he will be able to later, and with this team? Geez. To do so will show him you are not fair.
The decision to sign him was made when we made the trade. Just do it. He has a high floor, and he has Shanahan. We need to give everybody the feeling this is a partnership, we're in it together, and we're going to work to make it successful. It's a team, and he's on the team.
People here want to screw this up. I hope and think Kyle and John have other ideas.
