If all goes well and he keeps up the ~275 yards/game average he will finish the season around 6,500-6,600 yards as a 49er. putting him in the Top 10.

who cares?

I know I do. Means he's been playing healthy and playing well.

Be careful what you roll.
Ok, going back to some real Jimmy G technical discussion:

I saw that PFF rated him #10 overall. I wager what's keeping him relatively low in the rankings is the fact that they graded him #24 in "big time throws", which I'm equating to being deeper balls that have the receiver somewhat covered (versus that wide open Goodwin in Cincinnati for instance). Maybe that first TD of the year to Richie James is a big time throw, or had Samuel came down with that bomb, that surely would have been.

But anyway it begs the question. The one thing I think we haven't seen a ton of from Jimmy in a 49ers uniform (don't know about Patriots) are deep ball attempts, let alone completions. It seems like a high percentage of the deeper attempts has a receiver pretty open thanks to Shanny.

He seems to do very well in the intermediate range (and obviously short) which is what makes him a much more efficient QB at moving the ball than most other 49er QBs the last 20 years, but the deep ball so far I don't think we can say is special. I feel possibly that the lack of intimidating teams in that fashion is what is holding him back possibly, or maybe just his perception.

Curious what you guys think, and if part of it could be the Shanahan offense and/or receivers? You'd hope we'd see more of it with Goodwin.

I'll optimistically defer to this becoming a bigger part of his game as the season goes on. I feel it's gonna be necessary for him to transcend as a universally top regarded QB. I'd consider the throws to Richie James and Breida for the TD in the KC preseason game as "big time throws".

I mean, Wilson makes 2 or 3 long completions a game and people think he's actually a great QB....meanwhile he would kill to consistently play from the pocket like Jimmy.

I think in Kyles offense deep routes are extremely rare and calculated. He wants to attack the intermediate with Goodwin taking the top off and freeing it up. But I'm no offensive guru but that's how I perceive his O.

Edit: and Wilson is great. Just being honest

Every time I see or hear Tim Rattay's name I just remember that Monday Night game he destroyed Pittsburgh 30-14 to go 5-5. This is the time I really started to pay attention to the 49ers. Great game. Also, I was a huge Ken Dorsey fan when he was in college and was thinking he was the next best QB to join them and the rest is history.

Also, PFF counts dropped interceptions the same way it counts interceptions.

You poor guy

Ikr. After Dennis Erickson came Mike Nolan, Mike Dingleberry, Jim Harbaugh (my glory years as a fan. short lived at that), Ron Jeremy's stupid looking idiot brother Jim, and Chip. Now for the first two years of KS I wasn't too down because there were good changes at QB I saw even though it was Brian Hoyer. First off we finally got a QB that could throw for more than 125yds cough...cough Kap..cough. Then the offense just needed some receivers and RBs which he addressed over his time here. Then JL and KS filled up the defense for the past two seasons....so good times are ahead I believe. I'm enjoying the ride and have no complaints. Go NINERS!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping that Shanahan will open up the passing game more as well as me move along with the season. I think right now, due to Joe's absence from the OL, he's preferring to call shorter developing routes so Jimmy can get it out quickly.

I really would prefer to see Jimmy not eating grass on every other throw like he was during the Steeler game. Quick, short throws and screens are a start but Staley's missing presence can't be overstated. Hopefully once he gets back, but preferably a bit sooner with better OLine play Shanny will start calling more 5-step drops and we'll see Jimmy's laser beams in the 15-20 yard area beyond the LOS.

Teams will continue to blitz us until we block it up well enough or Jimmy burns them enough times to make them back off
