I can see Garoppolo and Niners agreeing to a deal that is the average of Alex Smith's new deal and the highest newly signed QB contract this offseason (Cousins or Rodgers most likely).

Kirk Cousins is the next major hurdle, but all the vikings QB's will be FA technically and they will affect the signing bar to a minor degree, but more importantly the draft.

Since we have such a high cap number, it would be wise to make the base salary huge this year, as much as possible, so that the subsequent years JG's salary hit will be lower/smaller and we can use the cap space then to continue to sign as necessary FAs, ours and others.
Wild, does Jimmy have to sign the FT to participate in workouts and OTA's?
Yes. If he does not sign his franchise tag he is not under contract. So, it wouldn't technically be a "hold out" as he is not holding out from a contract -- and therefore cannot be fined for any missed time.

I always wanted Jimmy over Cousins but I didn't think we had any chance of getting Jimmy.

$27.75. 3rd highest ahead of Stafford and behind Rodgers and Cousins? I'm not sure his agent can justify that after 7 games in the NFL. We might be getting too far out there. It's really about the guaranteed $ anyway. Paraag will work it...front load it...high guarantees and keep the annual salary reasonable after year 2.

I still think Kirk is good, but I'm happier with Jimmy, mostly because of age.
