John Lynch stated at his final press conference that this would all be done behind the scenes and would not be done in the press.

There is a very good chance we hear nothing about this and then all of the sudden they have a deal.

Jimmy was going to see his agent the week after the season ended and I have no doubt his agent and the 49ers have been in contact.

Possible, but that's crazy. 60mil chunk hit in one year for just one player. I'm sure there are other player contracts to account for that year already alotted.

But that's perfect for this team - get the QB paid in a year when the team is flush with cash. $60M to JG would still leave almost $60M in cap space this year... and over $100M next (assuming for the sake of argument here only no FA signings).

JonnyDel pointed out many times since you can roll over unused cap money doesn't matter if we front load or back load the Jimmy g contract.

It made a lot of sense

I also mentioned it in my last "Thoughts" thread.

http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/190059-week-2017-thoughts-rewatching-last-three-games/search=marvin49

Doesn't really matter who's talking about it though. Front loading is the prudent move. Yes you can slide space to future years, but why not get it past you now when you have the space and the $$$? There is also the concern of the rolling 3 year cap floor which might prevent the team from simply rolling the money over.

Once every team has the opportunity to tag the players they want to keep that might be worth big price tags (Watkins, Demarcus Lawrence, etc) there may not be a number of guys out there you would want to sign to huge contracts.

With this much space it only makes sense to front load the hell out of a Jimmy G contract and preserve the ability to get out of that deal easily or secure cap space in the future even if he DOES work out.

Its just the prudent move. Money has to get spent one way or the other.

Well people assumed he was the source of all the leaks, but they mysteriously stopped when baalke left. People also assumed he was butting in on football decisions. Nobody ever said anything negativity about his ability to work up great contracts that are team Friendly.

The closer it gets to FA the more worried I get.

I wonder what the hold up is.

Paraag is the Executive Vice President of Football Operations and Jed's right hand man. Of course he's been involved in football decisions. It was his idea to hire college interns to do our draft scouting back in the day. He was in the Offensive Coordinator's booth keeping track of timeouts and challenges back when Jimmy Raye was falling asleep during games. He's been an integral part of every head coaching search. Those are just examples publicly known.

What seems different now is that with ShannyLynch and their long term contracts, he doesn't appear to be attempting to interfere with their areas of responsibility. And that's a wonderful thing.

As much as I want it, I'll be shocked if a deal gets done before guys like Cousins and Rogers. I think Jimmy and his agent want to see what the new market will be for QBs. It could be the difference between two to three extra million a year. No way he's the first to sign.

Were you expecting a contract by now? I doubt we'll hear anything until the combine, late February would be optismistic

There were 2 reports about Paraag that always rubbed me the wrong way. The first report was about him somehow overruling Bill Walsh about draft picks in either '02-03.

The second one was him supposedly steering Dr.York away from considering Mike Holmgren as HC for the 2005 seasons. The report said something to the effect that Holmgren wanted out and could get out of his seahawk contract and wanted the Niner job. Paraag was Against it because no Sb winning HC has ever won a Sb with another team. This always ticked me off because I'd be willing to bet a certain QB from Berkeley avail for the 2005 draft may have intrigued Mike. Also, it would have been a move back to the WCO. It's still my opinion that our move away from the WCO system after the 2002 season was this franchise's biggest mistake.

That 60mil signing bonus going to count against the cap, spread out the 5 years, at 12mil a year. If Jimmy is some how off the team, that's 12mil of dead money a year. That 12mil a year counts against the cap whether Jimmy is on or off the team.

Where's the 'saving' the article is talking about...?

There should be a balance in the guaranteed money between signing bonus and roster bonus.

Relax, we have Paraag. Somehow hes going to find a loophole. He always does.
Dr. York with the bad hair color job.

Mike Nolan had Mike McCarthy as OC. He was thinking WCO. But then had to go to the next best thing in Turner after McCarthy left for GreenBay. Turner wasn't WCO but still good for a young Alex Smith. It was a mess after Turner left after only 1 year.

McCarthy was WCO form that Paul Hackett KC branch and I guess you could argue what we ran in '03-'04 was a WCO/spread blend. It just blows my mind that we could've possibly had a Holmgren/Rodgers combo starting in 2005.
