The contract was good for him at the time, was before he went full beast last year. Agent did a good job getting a Special Teamer a 3 year extension.

Just get out of the spotlight ASAP, and let this blow over. Keeping it going on a day to day basis...just makes it less and less likely Mostert plays here this yr.

IMO, when the agent tweeted about negotiations being unproductive--I can almost guarantee GTD was part of the 9ers offer.

I think he wants plenty MORE money, not just GTD.
Here we are a week later, and this issue is still being discussed...and no mention of this from the 49ers.

I posted earlier that the sooner Mostert got this cleared up and off the front page, the better things will go for him. The fact this is not settled and off the front page makes me less and less certain Mostert will be playing for us this yr... and that is a shame.

I dont think anyone would disagree with Mostert deserving a little more this year, you just cant set the precedent of tearing up a 3 year deal 1 year in. Mosterts agent got jumpy and blew his load a full year too soon. If Mostert balls this year then I see no reason why he cant get a decent LTD after this year. Age? sure hes 29, BUT with very very few miles on those legs.
Alvin Kamara total cash 2020: 2.133M
Raheem Mostert total cash 2020: 2.825M
Damien Williams total cash 2020: 2.175M

Raheem will have more total cash this season than 175+ other running backs in the league. Now that I think about it it'd be cool if the FO could tweak his contract a little more in his favor but yeah not cool for his agent to resort to SM. Dude is crucial to our SB aspirations this year even if he's part of a rotation.

Can anyone confirm that this is the agent that had him sign his last deal as a FA?? Or is it a different agent? (Too lazy to investigate)

In the end,...Mostert's gripe is with the crap deals the CBA allows for players,....not the 49ers independently.

It's highly unlikely, but for all we know the Yorks side with the players moreso than most owners (I know that personalities like Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones certainly does not, unless the players kiss their rear ends when they're around)
i guess we will find out if he reports to training camp or not. He can always opt-out for the season and take that 150k cash settlement. LOL

I havent listened to or read the transcript,...but knowing Young,...I doubt that that's the gist of his comments. Actually,...he'd be great in leaving the system this year -- it'd mean he had a great 2-yr run here,....enough so that some team gave up some capital as well as a better contract to him because they believe in him.

The problem is what are really the odds of that, though? The market just isin't there for him right now due to reasons already stated, as well as a central question:

(1) How did you manage to be with 4 previous teams, and not participate or show enough to convince them enough to give you even 1 carry? If I'm another team thinking about trading for Mostert, and we're at the bargaining table with his agent,...this is a problem for me.

(2) He has yet to even put together a complete season of playing at an exceptionally high rate as a feature back.

(3) He's played at a high rate -- with a ton of help from other RBs to spell him and keep his legs fresh.

He's hurting himself because not only is the market not there right now and he's stuck in mud (financially) the next couple years,....but if he can pick up where he left off immediately this season....and continue it throughout the entire year,...he's then established what he doesn't have right now, which is market value. We would then be able to move him with a year left, or be compelled to give him more money.

Let's look @ Breida for comparisons sake,...5.3 ypc the year before with 800+ yards,...more than Mostert has ever gained in a season,...is not to shabby himself.

5.1 ypc amid injuries and being in the dog house last year,...speed to burn as well,....more than 3 years younger and on his 1st contract....and yet we were only able to garner a 5th rounder for him.

As of now, he's in no man's land and if anything,...he's at risk for ruining his place on the depth chart (in terms of carries) instead of showing to be of good character and leadership,....and unless some team has multipled RB injuries or just really, really believe in him for some odd reason,...there's just nowhere to go. Sitting out a couple years would basically be retiring and attempting a comeback when you're 30,...lol. This type of stuff hurts your potential to get what you really seek,...which is a new NFL contract "one day" before you're in the "old man" category as a RB.

It just doesn't add up right now and I mean hell,...we dont even know how this season will look as of now cause the forecast is currently bleak,...yet his timing to publicly ask for more money comes in the midst of a pandemic raging upwards and threatening the season.

So again I ask,...is this crap agent the same one that previously got him signed up?

He did answer your question and then some. You just had an answer that you'd accept in mind and didn't like what he came back with.

This situation is a little befuddling to me. The Niners are a very generous organization. To a fault. I've always felt that this could lead to problems. Perhaps this is one of those situations. But they must have some reservations about Mostert. Otherwise they would have found a way to get him paid.

I also don't think that it's fair to dump on his agent about the deal he negotiated. Here's a guy whose been cut and bounced around five different teams. Barely hanging on in the league. He gets offered a $3million a year contract . Must have felt like kitting the mother lode. Probably the player himself didn't anticipate that he'd break out as he did. Contingencies that are outside the realm of conjecture, as this must have seemed, aren't usually included in contracts. The agent did fine, given what had been the history with Mostert.

Mostert only performed exceptionally in the playoff games. He did show good signs for a half of the regular season. The sample size is way too small for him to be acting all uppity. Contrast that with the way Kittle is behaving. It's a very bad look. Potential character issues. The fact that they've gone public with it is another black mark. I wouldn't want to build a foundation around a person that uncommitted. Unless the player does a quick and sincere reversal on his position NOW, I feel that the Niners should seriously explore trade options here. It also sends a signal to others that the team won't look favorably on disruption of team chemistry.

The fact that Steve young disapproves of his approach just salts it for me.

His agent did perform well at the time. I'm sure, at the time, Mostert was very happy to accept the Niners money. The issue with the agent is that he did not protect his client should his rushing performance improve substantially. It did. Now he's back to square one. However, by accepting the current contract he willfully gave up that bargaining power.

This type of issue comes up every offseason for every team. However, it is not often made public. That's on the agent as well. He's scrambling to find any source of leverage because he gave it all up to the Niners last offseason.

Completely the opposite from my vantage point due to what is stated above. Dude turns 29 next Spring. I mean,...where is the wiggle room? He has no choice but to show up to camp and make his millions, as we turn the page.

I'm all in with you until this part,...because...exploring trade options equates to calling other teams (I assume you mean),...which is a no no, because it tells the other team you feel like there's dead weight or there's a problem,...which only decreases his value in trade talks.

Either you let them inquire (his agent's already put it out there, which is their goal and job to begin with),....so it is up to the teams to contact us,...or ask for a guy like Jamal Adams (just as an example),...and then toss Mostert in with other stuff as possible compensation.

I'm fairly certain that calling around pitching Mostert's name around like he's an All-Pro or something with teams would only garner lols once the phones are hung up.

I was thinking more along the lines of how Kyle looks at Mostert if he remains on the team. Everything kyle does is team based and unhappy campers aren't his style . Besides this would really screw with a tight knit locker room, sometthing both JL and KS are for. I had hoped Mostert would retract all this, fire his agent , ask for forgiveness, and then silently just do his job. Doesn't look like it is going that way....unfortunately. I really wanted him to line up at RB for us this yr but that is now looking like a non starter.

And mostert isnt even close to being the #1 problem....nothing is bigger than covid.

Maybe the 49ers threatened to trade him to a landlocked state where he can't surf.
