Dolphins would really want CJ then, because they are tanking.

Because that is the only way you could look at this like it's a "competition." If you even watched last season it's absolutely clear to anybody. Beathard has never shown anything on par with what Nick Mullens did last season. Mullens is a gamer. He reads the field fast, makes the right decision, gets the ball out quick and is very accurate. None of which Beathard can do very well. It's astonishing to me that they are calling this a competition.
Agree 100% Cj just sucks the life out the whole team and 49er fans evrything is 1000 times more difficult when he's under center. Sucks that we traded up for him and got him so early in the draft.
CJ is still a very young man....things change as players mature.
There is a ton of Bucs fans who have an opinion on Steve Young....
teams take "prospects" for other reasons then putting them on the field right now, those players have value unrelated to today.
We as 49er fans are lucky, because Mullens is amazing. Mullens only has a hand full of weaknesses....and if he gets past that.....dude could be Drew Brees like.....
He could be the best QB on the 49ers roster.

I'm amazed that people feel he is only worth a 4th or 5th round pick when teams are willing to use a 2nd or 3rd round pick to draft a guy out of college who is completely inexperienced in the NFL. He is better than any of the guys coming out this year other than Murray because he has experience. I would see if we can get a 3rd rounder for him. If we can't then keep him as a backup. The way QB's get injured it is nice to hace 3 guys with game experience on the roster.

Well if we can't deal before the draft, then I'm hoping he has a solid camp / preseason. If he kills it, teams will be calling to trade and maybe we can get a solid depth guy for a position of need and/or a 2020 4th rd (3rd at best).
The only way I can see CJ traded is if it is a "package" trade along w/someone else.
Otherwise, IMO, he has little value - maybe a 7th.

I still hope to the high heavens that CJ and Ward kill it in camp / preseason to raise their stock (even just a little), then off them to highest (sucker) bidder

I'd let Minshew come in as a UDFA if he some how didn't get drafted. Then he could go on our PS. He probably gets drafted though.

How can he afford to go to that off-season QB camp on a UDFA contract. Should tear it up and give him a contract more indicative of a 2nd string qb. He's coming along really fast for a 2nd year guy going into his 3rd.

I say if Jimmy fails this season or gets hurt again.
I say we give Mullen the chance to be starter full time.

If that's the case just draft Murray if he's there at #2

Even as an UDFA, he made 400k last year and will make another 570 this year. A million dollars is a lot of money and any money spent on things like that are tax deductible.

who cares?
Mullens to me played a lot like JImmy did the first year.
Showed a lot of great decision making, accuracy.
Dudes still young and has a lot to learn, but is easily better than Beathard.
