QB CJ Beathard - signs with Jacksonville

Shop 49ers game tickets
Rothlisberger. ...surgery elbow

Brees ..surgery thumb throwing hand

Darnold out with mono (could be 2-4 mos)

Siemian , his replacement is out with ligaments in ankle.

Cam Newton....foot sprain

Nick Foles (Jax) out broken collarbone

All the above are QBs who are out. We have a pistol in Mullie and a brave heart in CJ. He is the guttiest qB out there. Big arm, tough, strong.

Wentz in Philly was in the blue tent for concussion protocol...he went back in but...

Somehow, it just seems that given time, teams will be coming to us...."could we talk with CJ?" Please.

Meantime, as long as JG is still healing from ACL surgery 11 mos ago, carrying a 3rd QB is just good sense. If somebody with the missing QB disease comes to us...well, then we can consider it. For now, tho, i would play the cards we have. And if that means carrying 3 QBs on a team no one knows how good it is...that seems like good advice....because we may just be a whole lot better than many realize.

Excellent take!

When you have to say "if given time", you are saying he is slow on reads and progressions, and therefor he has no value in the NFL.
Meanwhile, the Jags offense since Foles got hurt in Game 1 has looked better than it has in years behind a 6th round pick.
NOBODY is trading for cj

Too soon.

But CJ still sucks and was over-drafted by a GM and HC who overvalue certain players.

Just sayin', CJ's value as a backup is zippo. Teams will be willing to take chances to try to find a gem (even CJ's biggest supporters can't argue that he's a gem of a backup).

Meanwhile Mariota is playing worse than beathard would be

True, but it just goes to show that drafting college quarterbacks to play in the NFL is always a crap shoot, because it's a different mental skill set that is not demonstrated in college. Maybe the odds are better if you draft one real high, but the risk is commensurate.

There's that commensurate risk again.

CJ is 1-9 as a starter. Think whatever you will of Mariota, he's shown far more than that over the years since he was drafted. The Titans have been 9-7 three straight years coming into this year. I don't think any GM in the league is nuts enough to think CJ is going to manage that.

CJ would be sacked 15 times against Jax's pass rush. 4 INTS. CJ's team last year? The team that was better than the one Jimmy G. won 5 straight with the year before? The team that BDN won 3 games with? CJ sucks, and no GM in the league would speak of Mariota and him in the same paragraph, let alone sentence.

I'm not talking about GMs. I'm just watching a football game that's on tv right now. In the football game I'm watching, Marcus Mariota is performing terribly, and CJ would be doing better if he were playing instead of Mariota

Also, I'm just kidding. CJ sucks.

28 wins in 3 years and 3 games. Mariota is a mediocre QB, but he's not chopped liver. Well, that's not fair, I happen to love liverwurst.

Mariota is clearly better than CJ, but it doesn't matter. Neither one is good enough, and we looked for someone better, and the Titan's need to do the same.
