Not really. Did you really come in expecting any differently? What did you realistically think was going to happen after the Colts and Bears game? The held them narrative is spot on. If you were told in advance that Seattle would only score 13, you'd absolutely have taken that. Surely, our offense, that was supposed to carry the D this year, could give us 14 points. Surely they could. And I'm not saying that to knock Kyle or whoever, but it's like come on. The blessing in disguise is if we somehow survive Philly (I am pretty sure we are going there and probably are better off if we do go there), then that means the Rams go to Tampa or Carolina, win, and play Seattle again. I was convinced that if we got the 1 seed, we were going to see both the Rams and Seahawks again. Even at home that would've been a tall task. Curious to see what Kyle comes up with, because something different is definitely needed against playoff defenses and we just faced the first of many legit playoff defenses.
I get it, alot of injuries and key pieces out, but to me, the same problems continue. For example overpursuing on rundowns, safeties and linebackers continuosly taking the wrong angle when they need to be the force defender, communication errors with shifts. How are we not improving as the year goes on. You can claim they held seattle to 13 pts but the 2 missed field goals and on the opening drive Darnold missed a wide open rb in the end zone i think on 3rd down. The 3rd and 17 was purely pathetic effort.
A lot of the problems mentioned above have been here for a while. Our scheme is optimized for 2019 pass happy nfl with 220 pound lbs pre snap 5 yards back and wide 9 all out upfield rush priorities.

Every. Single. Down. And. Situation.

With 1/8th the talent.
Overall an inconsistent year for Saleh. Since so many younger/less experienced players have had to play more meaningful snaps than they had wanted it makes sense.

The good news is that it's unlikely he leaves, so he'll have a chance to get some new players next season. Having Bosa and Warner back will cover a lot a sins, too.

Last year under sorenson we lined up on the goal line with 2 dts on the guard or playing b gap and lbs 3 yards into the end zone. No word of a lie.

Jason Pinnock
Garrett Wallow
Tatume Bethune
Jordan Elliot
Kalia Davis
Bryce Huff
Yetur Gross Matos
Sam O
Keion White
Clelin Ferrell
Ja'iyr Brown

All got significant snaps and all of them don't deserve to be anywhere near a starting lineup.

It's actually a miracle that we play as well as we do. Blaming Saleh when we have this many below average players is insane.

The Texans, one of the best defenses in the NFL, run the exact same scheme with the exact same player philosophy.

The 49ers' average LB weight is ~230 pounds--same as the Texans, Seahawks, etc.

It's not the scheme or player philosophy. It's literally the lack of talent.

Agree, nice post. Hopefully in the draft & offseason we can bring in more pass rushers & speed all over the team

Yup need to have good look into the mirror defensively….coaches and schematically

Not isane. You are right about the talent level. It's bad and that's not on Saleh. The poor angles these guys are taking. Not on Saleh. Now these wack ass lazy predictable blitzes. That's on Saleh. This super soft vanilla zone is on Saleh. Still running the wide 9 with our current personnel is on Saleh. Overall the main issue is definitely talent. Out of that list I'd bring back White, Davis and Bethune for depth purposes only. The rest of them dudes can go.

If anything this year shows we have zero defensive depth and at least 2 or 3 starters that should not be starting. Unfortunately we do not have enough draft picks to fix the defense in a year. I mean we need 2 safeties, 2 LBs, 1 good end, another DT and another CB. Not to mention 2 to 3 Olinemen , 2 Wrs, TE

Are you looking at "Official rosters" ? that's all bogus. The seahawks list linebackers at 260.

from prior years Fred's playing weight has been less than 230. That is why he is so good in coverage, but doesn't stone NFL running backs. Winters is less.

It's a choice to go light or heavy depending on whether you want to stop the run or pass. And we still prioritize soft zone coverage, as if we still have bosa armstead ford buckner rushing.

I know you don't believe Ernest Young(230) and Drake Thomas(223) are 260 pounds

Fred was 236 at the combine. Again, I know you don't believe he shrunk since then when he's visibly bigger..

stop googling for this stuff.
