But far cheaper and not disgruntled. I hope he pans out.

I'm not sure if there is any comparison. Driskel has that quick release and is very accurate on the short to intermediate throws. He also stands in the pocket and goes through progressions. He's quick fast as well as distance fast.

Question: other than height, what is the difference between Driskel and Paxton?

"Driskel has the skill set to be a quality NFL starting quarterback. He is big, athletic and has the arm strength to make all the throws. That was clear at the combine where he worked out extremely well. However, Driskel doesn't have the mentality of a pro signal-caller. While at Florida, he was a disaster with turnovers, poor accuracy, and taking an offense that had pro talent and making it inept."

Sounds like Kap to me...

He can bench and learning to watch what Gabbert or Kap does play the games. Hope Driskel development of processing times.

LOL, hardly any completions over 25 yards. That can be coached. Let him learn for 1.5 to 2 years.

Probably in the thread already, but, QB gurus...how different is Driskel as a project than Paxton Lynch? They seem similar to me.

Lynch is taller, but Driskel isn't short - he's 6-4. Driskel is quicker and faster. They both have big arms. Driskel actually may be a better pocket guy at this point. Also, Driskel has a little quick release thing with his wrist that I haven't seen with Lynch. I like the pick. Little or no risk with great possible reward.

The way he played and the way he carried Florida and/or LaTech... it's fair to compare him to Jake Locker, before all the injuries.

Jake Locker was a bust, so that does us no good.

Looks familiar.....

Still have hope for the kid.

Blaine is a free agent after this season.... if they don't/can't resign him, and this kid shows similar skills....I think he might be Blaine of 2017 to keep Kaepernick on his toes.

What do you expect to happen? Like realistically.... not what you want to happen.

I just think the 9ers feel they have a pretty good contract on their hands, in comparison to other teams in the league....as well as the fact that they can get out of it each April of the coming year.

I don't think another QB will sign that type of contract again with the team.... and I don't think they would want to franchise Gabbert as well.

I dont think either Gabbert or Kaepernick are on the roster in 2 years.

I think if Kaepernick doesnt win the starting job, he gets cut or traded prior to April 1st. If he wins the starting job but sucks, he gets cut before April 1st, if he wins the starting job and plays well, he gets traded before April 1st.

I think that relationship is so far gone that the team will trade him for the first decent offer they get or simply cut him to avoid paying him almost $17 mil next year.

Driskell's issues appear to be coachable. This pick is almost all about system fit -- he matches Kelly's scheme to the T. With his size and athleticism, if he develops we could have quite a nice QB situation in the future.

The odds aren't great, but at this point in the draft, you're taking a shot on a guy with tools that hasn't put it all together and you think just needs some coaching. We'll see what happens. Excited to watch the competition in pre-season.

He has better upside than the majority of QBs youre taking at that point in the draft. Most of the time its smaller school guys, weak armed passers, guys that are complete statues or have character issues.

That's the exciting thing with Driskell. Big time size, mobility, big arm and a quick release at that? Physically it's all there. Technical aspects and the mental game in the NFL, you get those up to par and you become a starting caliber player. Accuracy, reads, and decision-making fall under the latter category and a lack of them can nullify your physical traits.

Like all QBs picked that late he is a longshot but if the desire and work ethic is there, if he wants to be great and will put the effort in, he has the tools to make it work. Its all on him and how well he attacks his own weaknesses.
