I actually like discussing with fans of other teams. Sometimes we have blinders and don't see what is really going on with our teams. Opposing fans can see it from a different point of view. Although I do see posts that are more like wishful thinking than reality from both sides.

Good point. So tell me, did the Niner's chances die when Jimmy G went down?

Never mind, don't tell me. I already know.

Lol, I suppose I could lie to you. Honestly, even with Jimmy G it woulda been tough to make the playoffs in my opinion with that defense. I will say this. The Niners are clearly better than the team that played before Jimmy G last year. Shanahan's really good at developing schemes that allow receivers to get open. And he's a top tier play caller. It helps whoever is behind center. Beathard is not Jimmy G but he might surprise.

Getting back to Shanahan. I'll admit wanted the Rams to hire him and was disappointed when they didn't. But McVay has been everything and more. So I'll gladly admit I was wrong about him. I think the 49ers and Rams are going to get back to the old rivalry ways with two young talented coaches leading them for a lot of years.

In the short term, you guys gotta fix that defense. You coulda easily been 2-2 or 3-1 with a better defense. You're going to score points. That won't be a problem. You just don't want to keep playing catch up.
Rams is good team but got one championship.. its cute!!
No question with Garoppolo we would be 3-2. However the Rams do not have an edge rusher And their linebackers are complete garbage. Their safeties aren't good either and they have been exposed on defense buy a horrific Seattle team. Seattle's offense is comically bad.

the Rams just like last year when I said they would lose in the first round of the playoffs by the Falcons and they got destroyed. This year they will probably get a bye week and win their first home game and lose in the playoffs yet again. The rams are the Rams
Also, was peters getting burned again by a scrub? I still like peters a lot as a play maker however it's at a big risk of giving a big plays as well

I think the Rams get upset. It's there first game out of the West Coast and second game out of CA. They almost lost in SEA and now they will be dealing with cold temps in DEN. KC almost lost in DEN. Sunday weather prediction is SNOW!!

Peter's is a counflip when healthy too. Likes to take too many chances. Rams don't have a good secondary or LBs. Their offense needs to score 30+ in most games to win (which they will do!)

While I agree that Peters take too many chances that does not translate to the Rams having a bad secondary. We have two very good safeties an lots of CB depth.
Phillips is a good DC so it's not on him.

I wonder if part of the issue here is the Rams became so offense centric that it's exposed the defense a little.

For instance, if you are more explosive by nature and score quickly, then lack of TOP hurts the defense ability to stay rested.

Also there's the mentality part, where it's harder to play lights out if the offense is that good.

These are subtleties to be introduced on top of what I feel are schematic weaknesses to the Rams defense (mainly no edge rushers, interior monster DTs that are better against pass than run, no scary LBs). If you add all of these missing pieces in, you have the Jaguars defense......and as good as that defense is, even they're not perfect.

BTW, the Niners never truly struggled against the Rams defense this decade except when Kap was in that mystic funk (you know exactly the game I'm talking about).

But I'd kill for just one Niner game where our defense can limit Wilson the way the Rams have done time and time again.

Well it won't be this season.

Yeah, the Rams have been bad against the run for years. They have no edge rusher to talk of, No linebackers so their defense is certainly overrated. Donald is not having a good year at all even though he is a great player and has a ton of help inside. They got exposed last week and I believe Denver with their horrible quarterback might give them some trouble as well. I'm still not convinced goff is a good quarterback under pressure. They got embarrassed in the playoffs against the Falcons and if they go up against a quarterback that has a quick release and a solid pass d they're toast
