People hate PFT, but when it comes to legal stuff, Florio is the guy to read (he's an ex-lawyer)

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/02/15/shaun-king-doubles-down-in-his-crusade-against-peyton-manning/

Florio basically says Shaun King is full of s**t and has no idea what he is talking about.

No NFL Protection for Manning anymore his career is over. Enjoy Papa Johns and look bulked up for your prison unis.
I certainly was pretty oblivious to any type of shenanigans involving Peyton back in college, until I got up to speed on the story. Apparently he and his inner circle were convinced that framing the incident as some fratboy "mooning" thing, in his 2003 book, would put the issue to rest permanently and satisfy the public with no future repercussions. Yeah, nice try. IMO it only taints his reputation a little but not an earth-shattering controversy.

RE: The activist who wrote this story...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/02/15/whitlock-calls-out-shaun-king-not-the-quarterback/ Whitlock calls out King. He apparently lied about his race. He is a "black lives matter" activist who is sounding more and more like he is only trying to tear Manning down in order to diffuse criticism of Newton for his post-game interview.

King is Rachel Dolezal 2.0 (NAACP who falsely claimed to be black) - he claims he is bi-racial but in a twitter he later deleted he admitted he lied about his race in order to gain a scholarship to Morehouse.

There are accusations but not the undeniable facts King asserts. Since a deal was made, we will never know the truth. We are only left with what it appears King intended; a smirch on the reputation of an NFL legend whose race he appears to hate.

I don't know about this particular case, but Peyton Manning's squeaky-clean image has always been fake. Dude pretends to be the perfect family man, but in reality, he's f**king around like a rabbit.

Yeah no. The reality is that when this happened, this woman claimed that Manning had mooned her according to reports at the time. Years into his pro career she was suddenly claiming that he had teabagged her. The matter was settled in civil court a long time ago, the only reason it is being brought up again is because a particular activist who has been found to be less than credible in the past is now butthurt about Cam Newton being the brunt of criticism.

Number 1 everybody has known about this teabagging case since it happened. Court documents were recently released about this case and the Univ Tennessee is facing a sexual cover up lawsuit, this is why its being brought back up. Did he teabag her? I dont know but hes paid her off twice

To act like this is just some made up story is simply wrong and ignoring it is simply foolish. Something happened, that is very clear and to somehow connect it to newton is ridicules

Maybe this guy has a agenda but this story has legs

Very often in cases this, the side with the money decides it is easier to just make a settlement payment in exchange for being able to go on with their life/career. Even when the charges are false or spurious, it is easier and cheaper to pass some cash than to go through a long, protracted court case. Even though you win, it takes more time, energy and money than it is worth to win. I suspect that is the case with Manning. I have no proof. I only know that is what happens with some frequency.

If there is no merit to the case, there would be no settlement.

Its also just as likely Peyton did what he allegedly did and the settlement was "hush" money because his image was more important to protect

edit: Oh and I don't really care he tea-bagged someone

There is a lot more out there. This is the guy Shaun King has set out to besmirch.

They are not "court documents" as they are being portrayed in some places. They are plaintiff documents - a statement of claim made by the woman's lawyer. At this stage nothing needs to be proved and anything can be claimed. The purpose of the document is to convince the court that something actionable occurred. The Manning lawyer would have also submitted documents outlining why the court should not waste its time hearing the case. Nothing that happens at this point is submitted under oath and the most outrageous and unsubstantiated claims are often submitted by both parties. We know something happened, because Peyton has admitted that much, but I for one find it hard to judge exactly what occurred and how serious it was based on the quality of the information that has been "released". It could have been a very poorly thought out college prank (I have a night in jail to show I know how those go), or it could have been a malicious act intended to dominate and humiliate a woman he felt was unable to object. The fact remains that we don't have enough information. I DO however feel that I have enough information to determine that the way the released documents were presented to the public with the implication that they were court findings rather than plaintiff submissions was done with malice intended. The only thing we can safely assume from the documents is that the judge felt the case presented by the plaintiff had more merit than the Manning's argument that the case should not be heard, and felt it strongly. This is still a long way from a finding of guilt. Also lost in all the chatter is that the case against the Manning's was for defamation based on their book. The sexual harassment case was launched against the University for fostering a hostile work environment. At no point was Manning charged with anything and at no point has the plaintiff ever mentioned bringing criminal charges for whatever occurred in the locker room.

That is not always the way it works. Companies/people that have a lot of money become targets for people looking for a payday. Sometimes there is merit to a portion of the allegations but nothing of substance. The cost in time and money to defend these kinds of actions is not worth it. Hence, an agreement is reached to end the matter which is less costly than to defend.

I don't care either.

Well said. Thank you.
