I honestly didn't have much of an opinion either way on Cam. Mostly I was just tired of hearing about "controversy" about him. I don't care much about his dancing celebration.

But I've also known he has had a long history of criticism for his behavior. How quickly people forget Steve Smith being pissed off at Cam (although Steve Smith later said the polarization of Cam has to do with race).

Yeah race does play a role in it, but personally I think people are overplaying the role of race in the opinion of Cam. I don't remember Vick (pre-dog killing) or McNaab getting a ton of crap for being arrogant. I do remember Kap and Cam getting crap because of thier celebrations and demeanor. You can tell they were more than just confident, that they were arrogant.

I mean people don't like Rivers or Cutler, but honestly I feel like if either were Black we'd getpeople saying they are polarizing because of their race.

I just find it odd that Cam defenders think its about race, and not about his behavior.

I just think its weird, Cam is a Carolina Panthers QB, most football fans should dislike him (since he doesn't play for "their" team). But he somehow has become a bit of a hero among people I know that think the criticism is just about race.

He pulled one of the biggest b***h moves in a SB game by not going after a fumble. I mean that is EPIC. You talk about players laying everything down to win the championship, and that single play was the complete opposite. He didn't even try, he even JUMPED BACK. And its not like Cam is some small scrawny QB, he is probably the strongest QB in the NFL.

To me what Cam did in the post-game conference is about people wanting to s**t on him after the arrogant way he carried himself before the game. People wanted him to suffer and eat crow. i don't have much of a problem with athletes acting a bit arrogant when they are winning, being a winner in sports often requires you to carry some swagger because it does have an effect on your play when you think you are invincible. But thats a small funny issue to me. To me, as a sports fan, the big story is him jumping away from a fumble.

Imagine if Kap did that against the Ravens. I mean people hate Kyle Williams guts for dropping a punt while probably being concussed, at least he TRIED to make the play. It wasn't for lack of effort.

I think not jumping after that fumble is the most b***h move I've seen in a Super Bowl or any other championship sports game I can remember.

But yeah, I probably only say that because he is black

Compare that to Peyton Manning, old as hell, frail, and a neck that is pretty much gone.

He throws the pick and he at least TRIES to tackle the guy running back his int.

So Limbaugh basically said McNabb is over rated because the media wants a winning black QB. I don't think that's true, but I do think there is a segment of the population that really wants a black QB to be a HOF epic great QB to break the mold. And that goes to my point that I find it odd so many people defend Cam Newton. There is a segment of the population that wants the next Montana/Favre/Young/Peyton/Brady to be a black QB because to kind of break a "glass ceiling" of sorts.

I think McNabb was over rated because his team was winning, and people automatically assume a QB with wins = must be a good QB.

Like where these Cam fans last year or before? Bandwagon jumpers on a team that 90% of America DGAF about. Its like its fair to say people hate Cam because of race, but you can't say people like Cam because of race. I dont get it.

I seem to recall Peyton Manning storming off the field with no words of congratulations after losing to the Saints in a SB. I don't like Newton's act after the game, but I can't help remembering that nobody made an issue out of Manning's bitterness after that particular game.

i think race is a factor on some level. but also i think it's the position he plays. a lot of people feel if you're gonna be the QB there's a certain silent confidence (with a dash of douchery) you're supposed to have. Cam comes off as having a triple dose of douchery to some people IMO.
