Look back at our draft history though, and what percentage of our 2nd round picks would be more important than a good coach? You have to go back to 1991 when we drafted Ricky Watters in the 2nd to even get someone worth talking about.

Horrible deal dude. Brees will be cut. You just took his $30M cap hit. Thanks SoBaalke
$20 million cap hit. Saints owe $10 million in bonuses if they cut or trade him. Still makes no sense and I can't imagine why Brees would want to come here even with Payton.
Playing behind a Baalke line won't help to extend his career.

wonder if we could get him for a third.. then use the money we save by not signing ck to sign brees and then have him mentor a nice rookie for two years? then trade ck and maybe get a third or a 4th rounder.... that is probably not how the real world works, was just speculating

The way some of Baalke's draft has been quite shi**y, giving a 2nd pick away for a good coach is nothing. It would be worth it.

We'd save that much whether or not we choose to bring in Brees. We'll have $60 million or so in cap room after making cuts and before resigning or extending our own players. I'm not sure I want to spend a third of that on a soon to be 37 year QB (Jan 15) when we're not likely to even be a playoff team next year. I'm also not sure why Brees would want to end his career here.
