Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
Let there be no mistake, Sean Payton was open to leaving New Orleans. But interest in him, with compensation, not what he thought it'd be.

Tell me who is deciding whether or not to allow Sean Payton to either talk to other teams or not?
Its not spin, its basic common sense. If a guy is unwilling, you can't force him to coach for you. If the relationship is that badly gone, the Saints have two options. Fire him or trade him and get whatever they can in return from a team that he is willing to coach.
Teams know that the relationship is busted up and thus they aren't going to offer the Saints much because they know that Payton has them over a barrel.
Ok, so then why aren't we waiting for Payton's announcement that he is going to do whatever he wants?

Saints will not make HC Sean Payton available to other teams at this time, per source.

With Payton staying in NO I'm thinking our top choice will be Mike Shanahan. Jackson may not be available for weeks and if the Bengals lose could actually be promoted to head coach if they fire their current coach. The Yorks know they need a big hire and Mike Shanahan is probably the biggest available. They could wait and then could be left with nothing.

how could we control what the saints ended up doing?
See bolded
Didn't you hear Rappaport just milk this juicy story ? Payton just wanted to be appreciated. Boo hoo. He knew he wasn't coming here. He just finished saying he couldn't see himself coaching any other club. Used us leverage. York probably didn't have any conversation with Loomis about it.

If Payton went to Miami or Tennessee over us I'd be bugged. That he stayed in NO doesn't fall on YorBaalke IMO.
I get it, but it was all fluff.
