The Legacy of Peyton Manning

I dont think Peyton was one of the top 5 ever.
He did throw too many INT during his career and was a regular season guy.In the playoffs we was not as good as suposed to be.
Probably Aaron Rodgers will be the best ever when he stops playing.

Manning's lack of post season production puts him down on my list. His superbowl win came against the Bears led by the mighty Rex Grossman. Regular season, playing in the often terrible AFC South sure he's prob the greatest. But when the pressure was on he usually didnt deliver.

I remember him coming into Candlestick as a rookie in '98 and jumping out to a 21-0 lead against us before he and Young dueled the rest of the way (Niners pulled it out 34-31 IIRC). Amazing how fast time flies.

The game was in Indy, I think. Followed by Mora's "playoffs, playoffs, playoooooffs" rant.
I think that was the 2001 season where the playoffs rant happened.

Top 15 all time, maybe around 12th or so.

Could of been top 5 but his post season flops shine bright.
His legacy is cash. I hope he has invested it well. I don't find him particularly memorable.
Nothing unusual happened and you creating a bizarre scenario.
Jocks play for money. They could care less about a legacy.
The play till they can't anymore because they want to or the league keeps bringing them back because no one complains about another million in the bank.
Manning doesn't care what any fan thinks or about any legacy and no other jock has ever cared either.

Jerry Rice is not a jock? I would guess most NFL players care about their legacy. You must have a bizarre definition of jock.

Manning is the #6 QB of all time in my opinion (behind Montana, Brady, Marino, Young, Unitas). Brady is top 2 with Joe Montana. Rodgers will finish in the top 5 when all is said and done. 30 years from now, Montana and Brady may be the only ones left from that list.

Dude, put your own life in theirs. You wouldn't walk to the bank or donut shop or your new job after retirement going "oh no, my lagacy from my playing days is ruined"
Nobody cares.

Wowzers! Rice is the greatest receiver ever!
He's nothing now but a older Mississippi hick who can't get long term tv gig because he sounds illiterate on tv. He gets privileges but he's nothing more than a man trying to get by like the rest of us. A jock is a retired jock,is a jock.People don't walk past retired jocks and point fingers at them "hey dude, aren't you the guy who retired with a bad legacy?" Lol no.

I don't think Peyton even belongs in the 2nd tier of QBs, what I'd call the Marino tier. If Marino had the talent around him that Peyton did for 90% of his career, he'd probably have won 3 Super Bowls. Peyton's 1 SB, as others pointed out, was won by his defense against one of the worst teams to ever reach a SB. I mean Rex Grossman was their QB

Michael Jordan is also not a jock then - the guy cares more about his legacy than just about any athlete in any sport. He's been taking shots at Lebron James since Lebron came into the league because he doesn't want another player to threaten his legacy.

Players in every sport take less money than they could get to pursue championships. That's all about their legacy. Brady could be making significantly more money in New England, but if he doesn't win 6+ championships, he probably doesn't go down as the best QB of all time.

And plenty of fans still worship the ground Rice walks on, so I'm not sure why you're trying to pretend that his legacy doesn't mean anything. If the guy wasn't a tremendous football player, no one would know who he is. Instead, he's recognizable by millions of people and millions more will read about him (and see videos of him in this day and age). His kids know he was one of the best and hardest working players in the NFL ever. I'd imagine Jerry Rice's legacy is way more valuable to him than all of the money he made during his career and will probably last longer too.
how are people putting brady here? no mobility lousy temperament. lots of qb between joe and brady staubach is one

I think he compares pretty well to Marino. Both had had prolific offenses and played without a respectable defense for most of their career. Marino had plenty of weapons though.

Marino was probably the most talented and gifted thrower of all time but that didn't translate to W.
I guess that physical ability is not that important.

The problem of guys like Marino, Elway(more in early career), Favre and others gifted throwers is that they could't master the game mentally like Montana, Brady or even Manning.

Thats the point. If Manning wins 3 or more SBs the conversation is much different. We're not talking about where he ranks in terms of top 10 or 15, but rather whether he goes down as the best quarterback of all time along the ranks of Montana and Brady.

He had that chance if he had signed with SF. We were much better prepared at making a championship run, and with our D and coaching staff I think Manning not only walks away with another 2 rings under his belt (along with his one from Indy), but also the talks of better ever are legitimate.

But because he chose Denver and came up short every year, he'll go down best coulda been. Just like Marino and yes even Steve Young.
Do you think a coach like Harbaugh would have let Manning run HIS offense instead of the coach's? No, that's why Manning went to Denver. Kubiak was part of Manning's undoing but this was an Ole' Yeller scenario. Either Peyton adapted this year or they would "put him down". We know what happened.
