I still don't understand how you thought a "good run-blocking TE" helps Trent Brown in any way on stretch plays. Having someone to the right of him on plays going left doesn't help at all.

Walsh never had Montana roll out to the Left where Dan Audick was. He'd call draw plays to that side or quick hitters or screens. The point is if Trent has weaknesses, you scheme around it. Kyle is more than able to scheme around Trent's weaknesses. He's a good pass protector and I think Kyle values the pass protection a bit more than the run blocking.

Also why not call a fake dive play to the fullback and toss it to the RB (with speed) to get Trent on a better blocking line to a left reach block? Again, that's scheme and Kyle is smart enough to see if the defense is in Wide Nine or 8 man fronts and adjust his offense to it, that's what I meant.

The stretch runs are essential to Kyle's play action bootlegs.

If we can't run the ball Kyle's passing game is In-efficient.

I really like Trent Brown but he just isn't a fit. If he struggles to get to his zone on run plays and play action fakes the whole play is blown up.

I think Trent Brown for Vinny Curry works on both ends. Brown can slide into RT and Lane Johnson can move to LT. Derek Barnett is ready for more snaps at DE and they have 51 million invested in their Dline. Curry had a good year and is strong vs the run and was PFF's 21st overall DE with an 84.8 grade. He would slide in at LEO and give us a reliable starter.

Then we can look to add a tackle in the draft. A guy who fits our scheme and we won't have to pay LT money to Trent Brown in a year when his deal is up. I just cannot see Shanahan giving Brown a top 10 deal for a guy who isn't even close to a fit for our offense.

We can target a guy like Pittsburgh's Brian O'Neal who is a perfect bookend for us in later in the draft or use 9/10 on Mike McGlinchey who is an ideal RT for us.

Get a good blocking tight end on that side to help the run game and I think Trent will be fine. Between a good pass blocker and ok run blocker vs an ok pass blocker and good run defender, I think Kyle will chose the good pass blocker. A big portion of Kyle's offense is passing to set up the run. So, for example, how hard would it be for Trent to run block a guy that's intent to rush the passer when a draw play or screen pass is called?

Kyle also runs a lot of roll out stuff that requires a more mobile blocker than Brown has shown. You can't protect Brown with a TE which takes away one of the important components of the passing game.

If Dan Audick can protect Joe Montana, Trent will be just fine.

Guess Breida didn't have any problems running off Trenton Brown.

why are people all of sudden bashing trent? seems to be there is more love for kilgore and eli here than a guy who is actually a good football player for us

We touched on this in Episode 214. By week 12, Breida was averaging 3.3 yards BEFORE contact on outside zone runs. Carlos Hyde averaged just .5 yards before contact.

Well given he's running OZ off either Staley or Brown through week 12, splits may not offer much more. Anyone have the splits?

FYI, Breida's best games were with Zane Beadles at right tackle.

I was asking Oscar that too.


We ran the 4th most OZ with 175 snaps for 3.9 YPC. Breida (5.4 YPC) obviously raised that overall average (Hyde 3.2 YPC).

I agree that TB will probably always struggle with backside blocks but runs off his backside seem to be a strong suit for our running game. Throw in top tier pass protection, TB isn't going anywhere.

Very interesting. IIRC Hyde was averaging 5.0 behind Brown 2 years ago.

Lol this.. Trent Brown has been one of the few bright spots on the oline. I gotta say, Harold, Armstead and Carradine need to go. Theyve shown nothing to make me think they should remain here unless its for depth.

the only thing i can figure is that they totally support anything lynch does with no questions being asked so they are getting ready to bash trent in case we do not sign him. i can see the posts.. he was over rated anyway.. we are fine with gary and the guys we have from last year. they improved greatly as the year went. as a matter of fact we may just need to add one piece on the line and call it good.

yup, makes no sense. even Von Miller said he was the best RT in football...it's not his fault Hyde is a awful RB, Breida did just fine running of RT.

Breida has the speed to change those bad reach block angles and turn them into positives. I'm drooling as to what Joe Williams can do. In last years pre-season game, his speed was outstanding in my eyes. In Kyle's system, a guy like Joe who has speed and cutting ability can take it to the house every time he touches the ball.
