He actually cost us more. The rookie wage scale wasn't in effect at the time. Just FYI... And despite getting picked later, Balmer cost us 1.6 million per year with a contract that could've gotten him even more than that if he hadn't sucked.
Even after he left and signed with Washington he still made 1.3 million a year, which is roughly what Armstead is made last year in base salary. AA still has to play well to earn his 5th year since that option has no money guarantee unless he suffers an injury that extends well into next off-season. Otherwise he can easily be cut.
Personally, I think if healthy he'll have a good year.
