Lynch has said they would be open to bringing Dumervil back under the right circumstances but given everything else that has been said this off season it seems as though the team is really committed to seeing what they have in these young players and are determined to give them the snaps they need to prove themselves. If Elvis hasn't signed anywhere by the beginning of the season and none of the young guys have stepped up during the pre-season I could see them resigning him to a one year deal. It seems the biggest obstacle that Armstead faces is the whole square peg in a round hole thing. I remember when he was drafted that Baalke said something to the effect that Armstead was everything you wanted in a 5 technique. Now I don't know exactly how a 5 technique differs from any other but I get the sense that isn't what the defense is playing anymore so they will have to figure out how to best utilize him in this scheme or make a decision about moving on from him before next season.

AA is definitely going to get his last best shot. These guys are smart to give the young guys their chance, rather than bring in an over the hill vet. And this really will be his best chance. Coming back to the same defense, same DC, same terminology..

Agree that if no one steps up they can bring Elvis back. Let's hope they don't feel like they have to.

The thing is, is that he hasnt looked like he can be good. 1 or 2 plays over the course of a season does not mean they will be good.

Of course, but he got rave reviews from his coaches and the beat writers said he was killing it last year and PFF had him rated very high as a rookie. He has definitely shown more than 1 or 2 good plays. He's be inconsistent to be sure and he's spent way too much time injured, but he's done enough to stick around on his rookie deal until he proves he's not up to the job.

A first round draft choice who was drafted to be justins replacement and all we have are flashes and injuries. he has shown flashes? when were they. were they interesting.. every time i see him the other teams players are just whizzing by him as he whifs a tackle. and now you have some saying.. well its his contract year. so that means he will finally play well.

Where he was drafted doesn't matter. He may prove he sucks this year, or he may not, but people are talking like he should be cut just to clear a roster spot ... he's shown enough to get another chance. We just have to hope that if he sucks he does it healthy.
After reading this thread, if I get 1st pick in FF, I'm picking the Jet and getting all respect when he wins me the FF title.

Considering his season is usually just a few plays, that makes him a star
He's quite the polarizing figure right now.
It's easy to see why many want to see him get another shot but I also can't blame those who are ready to cut him and move on.
I, for one, would love to see him prove the doubters wrong (as long as he is a Niner), but he's been such a disappointment so far. Just stay healthy and give us the answer we need.

Seems smart. You wanna take care of surgeries in the shortest time frame of windows. Anyhoot, he's in prime position to have a solid year. Let's see what happens.

Hopefully, he's all healed up and has a big year for us.

I think he'll give us more than tank who ended up doing his job just fine in base. Cool thing with tank is imo he ended becoming an NFL player, I'm happy for him and hope he does well.

Yeah, tank was playing a lot better toward the end of the season. Too, bad that knee took so long to come around, he'll probably still be on the team.

It is easy to give it one more year, and not surprising they are doing so. But I am pretty sure the 49ers would have no issues on parting ways with him either. Another lost year and he will be history. It is possible he gets beat out in camp as well.
