how does this explain his inability to tackle people and to be driven backwards by running backs . a big hit over the middle which usually draws a 15 yard flag is surely an asset to most teams. jesus

Those hits set a fysical tone for the game. Our team got softer when goldson and Whitner left. Also reid is one hit away from potato land.
Now? Reid by a mile.

and gave the other team 15 yards at a crack. i guess i should not be shocked that you are ok when we help teams beat us. i hope the mods add something clever to my post

Almost all of the niner FA's who have signed with other squads have underperformed.

RJF, Aubroyo Franklin, Isaac Sopoaga, Tareel Brown, Rogers, Goldson,

Maybe team knows what it is doing when it does not re up a player they see day in and day out (see Crabtree)

Fangio id the best at using what is provided
..... which leads to the question, do we then take Landon Collins if NO DLs, WRs, and/or Trading partners??

Do we draft this kid and as an insurance for both Bethea and Reid??

is this nonsensical thread still going on?
Crazy to even consider.

Reid came in and was immediately better than Goldson. Nice hits, few penalties light years better in coverage. If we had Reid in the 2012-2013 campaign we'd probably have a super bowl ring.

Remember when we all thought it was Whitner who was the problem? Until he played with Reid then looked spectacular again? And how Bathea was just a "solid" move, until he played with Reid and regained pro bowl form.

Reid was better when he first got here but the reality is he is no longer the player he was after his second concussion. If you don't believe your eyes just go look at Pro Football Focus' grading before & after. Teams were SCARED to come over the middle while Goldson was here, while Reid OBVIOUSLY stopped filling the holes as fast and with as much abandon as he did before the concussions. The team won more games with Goldson, because when he was playing with Whitner, it was like fighting Tyson in that teams were defeated even before they started the game. Can you honestly say that without Goldson & Whitner that this D had the aura of toughness in 2013-2014 as they did 2011-2012?

Reid. Not close.

Wouldn't mind seeing Goldson back on the 49ers roster though.

2011-2012 was epic.

Base on age and today's NFL Reid. If it was 10 years ago I would take the KO artist.

if he comes back at a reduced rate and backs up Reid

why, he can not cover, he can not tackle,, he does one thing and that is to hit people drawing 15 yard penalties,

You have no idea what you're talking about.

To tell you the truth I was actually happy Goldson left, this guy blew too many big assignments down field especially when it matter most....in the Super Bowl. I was more upset that they let Donte Whitner leave, he was is (IMO) a much better in-the-box Safety than what Bethea is.

he just doesn't fit well in today's NFL. He gets fined/suspended alot for big hits. I thought Whitner was better overall.

He doesnt fit well in any era, because hes a FS that cant cover or tackle...

.... And neither do you

You 2 are foolish. Yes, he blew some assignments, yes he drew some flags... But you guys act like he never made any INTs, never forced fumbles, never shook opponents.... He was a great player. We got to the superbowl with him as our FS for a reason.

Note to all: Niners99 and cciowa are clueless 9ers fans who are the #1 haters of one of the best safeties to ever put on a 49ers uniform. Did he suck with the bucs? Yes, but with us he was GREAT. He got that contract for a reason you idiots!
I just hate sitting back and watching morons who think they know what they're talking about continuously bashing someone who did great things for the team. He was part of one of the most, if not the most, dominant 49ers defense in the history of the franchise. He left his blood on the field every Sunday.

I would love if were to bring Goldson back, Lord knows Reid will have a concussion 3 weeks into the season.

And yes, Goldson was highly overrated. Good player, hard worker but limited in some respects and showed awful judgment at times, made way too many ill-advised, bone-headed penalties that ended up hurting the team in some key moments.
@NFLSTROUD

#Bucs have traded S Dashon Goldson to the Redskins for an undisclosed draft pick in 2016.
