You can't preduct injuries & to make light of this kid being concussed is tasteless. Everyone has shown you why REID is a better player. Stop harking of this kids concussion and come up with some definitive facts to why Goldson was better. Also being a big hitter in today's league is meaningless if you're constantly out of position. I'll take 35 any day over 38.
Again, I like Eric Reid, I like what he CAN become BUT, to say he is better then Dashon Goldson at this point in their careers is COMICAL. Eric Reid cannot tackle properly thats why he has Gotten 3 concussions right off the bat. And to also think the 49ers didn't MISS or havn't MISSED Dashaon's toughness is also WRONG. The 49ers lacked the toughness they had from 2011-13 those are not only my words but NAVORRO BOWMAN's words. Not to mention the complete WHIFF Reid had vs Marshawn Lynch in the 2013 NFCCG that let Seattle tie the game.
What part of Goldson being one of the worst safeties in football the last two seasons are you missing?

No you see they already explained that.... here is how it works Goldson is being dragged down by the terrible Bucs defense but magically his numbers were not at all inflated by playing with one of the most elite units in all of football. Meanwhile even though Reid is playing with a lesser version of that D his numbers should be not just better...but much better to even be considered equal despite the fact he started as a rook rather then on the bench for a two years. Because you know a couple of gifs that resulted in penalties, so actually were big gainers for the opposing offense is the real metric of quality play.

Reid and Bethea are a great tandem who compliment each other. Reid is a great center fielder where Dashon and Whitner were both good run defenders. In the team concept, Reid allows Bethea to be aggressive against the run who has always been elite in the run game.
For this team, it's Reid. Stats mean next to nothing in the conversation.

how does this explain his inability to tackle people and to be driven backwards by running backs . a big hit over the middle which usually draws a 15 yard flag is surely an asset to most teams. jesus

I don't know if there is a harder hitter than Goldson, but unfortunately for him, that's not all this game is about. Reid is the type of guy that can not only get picks, but he can also do something with the ball afterwards.

As with almost everybody else, my concern with Reid is the concussion issue and the possibility he pulls a Borland and retires. Frankly, for his sake, if he gets another one, he should.

Reid easily, but a few more concussions and I'm. Concerned he may be hanging with Borland

Dashon Goldson is one of the best hitting safeties to ever play the game but that's it. He is so undisciplined in coverage and gambles at times even in run support. If he played in the previous era, he still would have gotten torched. I went with Reid.

Almost all of the niner FA's who have signed with other squads have underperformed.
RJF, Aubroyo Franklin, Isaac Sopoaga, Tareel Brown, Rogers, Goldson,
Maybe team knows what it is doing when it does not re up a player they see day in and day out (see Crabtree)

Me personally, it's close, I think I'd have to pick Dashon because he provided us with a precense of intimidation that Reid doesn't, those hard hits were ridiculous. However, Reid has some hard hits up his sleeve as well, and he is much better in pass coverage, so I can see if many of you would prefer Reid. As of today, Reid is outplaying Dashon, but Goldson was a completely different player with the 49ers. Once he cut the dreads he was never the same lol.
You can answer this question from two perspectives, who do you think is the better of the two now, or who of the two was better on the 49ers?
comparing a 8 year vet with a 2 year player is kind of weird

Reid, how many times have we been burned?
Goldson was frequently burned and then made big hits, or came in late.
In today's game Reid is the kind of FS you want to have.
Not to mention that the pair Bethea-Reid is far superior to any saftey pair we had in the last 10 years.

and yet,, when a problem arises and we have a hole to fill,,,,,, the pounding of the drum beat to bring back a x niner who is a x niner for a reason is stunning to me

you look at everyone of those names you discussed.. at one point in time or another in the last year,, there has been a big outcry to bring back these people to "save" us. jesus.
