If not its the dumbest thing the eagles have done in awhile.

not really. it can be bad in retrospect, but in general this is what happened:

1. Chip has a very specific plan in mind
2. Chip has balls to cut players who don't fit his plan (which is GOOD, imo)
3. Chip just won a battle with FO, which made him really both the HC and GM
4. This trade freed up a ton of salary cap
5. Chip's offense finished top 5 despite a mediocre at best year from McCoy and 8 games started by Mark Sanchez, who most people claim is garbage. He might not be a great HC, but he sure knows how to install a good offense
6. Eagles are very likely to get rid of Foles and go for Mariota
7. They receive a young ILB who was a great player when healthy and who makes very little against the cap

this is a very logical trade from Chip's standpoint. he believes in himself installing a great offense and doesnt believe in overpaying guys like DeSean or McCoy. on other hand he got a young cheap defensive player, more of which are needed by the eagles

now, Chip is all-in and betting everything on himself, as if the Eagles crumble, he will be the sole person responsible and he will get the boot. he may very well fail, but personally, I at least applaud the balls he has.

NFL is a business. letting loyalties and sympathy for player/coach getting in your way is preventing a lot of fans from thinking straight.

any and each player in the league has a value for which he can be traded or let go.

sure, some players or coaches will be salty. heck, Joe is still salty as hell at our FO for trading him to the chiefs. but again, it's business never personal.

people are overestimating mccoy's value and underestimating alonso's value.

the trade is pretty even as is, and while it can certainly end up biting eagles in the ass, I doubt that happens.

letting go of fans' idols and just good players in good time for good value, is a sign of balls and refusing to accept status quo; just as it is a sign of being a good businessman.

We should have offered Wilhoite
I'll make that trade any day if I'm philly - unless kiko can't recover 100%.
I like shady, a lot. but at 10mil? no. I'll take kiko and the money and run. no doubt about it.
If Alonso can get back to the incredible level he was at in 2013, and they can get a good RB in the draft, its a win for Philly.

Traded for Matt Cassel. He'll be good enough for Roman w/ Shady McCoy there. And Sammy Watkins

no no he really wont. Cassel is absolute trash

Bad trade for Philly I think. Shady is in his PRIME and an amazing runner. I understand he got stuffed a lot more last season but that was due to bad OLINE play and defenses figuring out the Chip Kelly Offense in year 2. Kiko Alonso is a good player no doubt but Shady is Shady. Schocking trade if you ask me.

You may have overlooked the salary cap implications.

IDK about the cap. Philly has 50 million to play with. Keeping McCoy wouldn't be a problem here.

I thought the got to 50 mil under with the McCoy trade no?
i remember browns fans being mad that they traded trent richardson..........

this. unless the system is tailor-maid for him like with the chiefs under OC weis, he sucks.
he proved that without weis in kansas city and with minnesota.

even if it was the case, 10 mio. for a RB is simply too much.
mccoy was a non-factor in the passing game and achieved 4.2 yards per carry in 2014. too little for being a high-paid rb.
