Ray Rice is finished.

The 2nd is too high IMO. Maybe 1 season. Lifetime is too much. Some of these gold digger girls will make this stuff up to pressure a settlement. This gives a lot of power to people who don't necessarily have good intentions. For real domestic abuse yeah it's terrible and should not be accepted. This just opens the door to gold diggers IMO. Unintended consequences.

This x1000

Wait a minute, Im agreeing with SD9er on something?!?! Wtf is the world coming too?

Lmao jk, a post could not have been anymore spot on.

Lifetime ban for 2 offenses is a little ridiculous im all for a harsher punishment but that is bs, i could see 1 offense 6 games, 2 offenses a year. A lifetime ban just seems somewhat irrational how do u go from two games to potentially being banned for life? Seems like a kneejerk reaction somewhat.

Seems like?? Lol thats exactly what it is, complete kneejerk reaction. Classic case of caveing to scrutiny and an attempt to shut people up. But he over did it in my opinion. A stiffer penalty than what was on the books was necessary, but come on man.

Lifetime ban for two offenses, serious stuff. If the NFL is taking this seriously, (as they should), how does Rice walk away with two games.

Exactly ... this new policy is obviously in response to the overwhelming negative backlash to the Rice ruling. I bet Goodell wishes he had a mulligan on that one.

That is kinda harsh. But the NFL makes its rules based on how much money it can make/public outcry.

If I'm an NFL player I'm gettin chicks to sign a contract before we even start talking. Gotta have a lawyer in the crew now.

No doubt, a girlfriend and sidepiece prenup. Lawyer up.
Sorry but I have to disagree with the 2nd offense lifetime ban being too harsh. If hitting your spouse and getting suspended for 6 games once isn't enough of a "come to Jesus" moment for somebody and they go and do it again then good riddance to bad rubbish IMO.
How are the dishes gonna get done now?

I agree. Find a new career. You should not be a role model under these circumstances. Its not like these are normal people. These are highly trained well paid athletes. If I was an NFL team and I was paying someone to get as big and strong as possible. I would want to be reassured about his mental makeup. This penalty is not to harsh. ray ray could have easily killed his old lady with that punch. Your getting paid millions don't smack women and kids around or it gets taken away. seems simple!

Agree.

Absolutely HATE woman beaters but I also see big-time abuse here.

1st offense - 4 game suspension - if found guilty
2nd offense - 1 year suspension - if found guilty
3rd offense - take him out in the woods and shoot him because he's never going to learn and he will more than likely do it again.

Does it count if it's an NFL player fighting with his boyfriend?

I want Goodell to give Aldon 1 game suspension (total) or no suspension at all... Smith already did some rehab so that helps. Later, he can come back and say "oh my bad" .... and set a new bar by making proper adjustments on new offenders

So why not issue this before the Ray Rice suspension and then give him 6 games? This is b******t timing on the league's part and doesn't make the suspension of Rice look any better.

your argument is invalrod. Would be like you having sex with your girlfriend after she turns 18 then the next day a law is passed saying minors dont become adults until they're 20 and you get thrown in jail for statutory.

Totally agree they didn't have a policy in place until Ray Rice issue but now the players know the consequence imo it shouldn't be the NFL issue our judicial system as a government is a joke

That doesn't mean Goodell couldn't have been harsher on Rice and make it a 4 game suspension. Afterwards he could have revealed the new 6 game suspension and could have avoided all the backlash the league got for the actual two game suspension. Instead this rule is gonna make Rice look like he got away with a serious crime while a future player may not do something near as bad but get 6 games. A crime is a crime regardless but it would have been an easier transition for society accepting it if it had been 4 to 6 and not 2 to 6.
it shouldn't matter if the penalty is too harsh. don't beat up on your domestic partner, period, and you wont have to worry about it.
