Remember Jerry Rice told us to take Desean Jackson in the draft, he told us flat out. But instead we get a joke like Kentwan Balmer, and a fail of Chilo Rachal, and we could have had Jackson already.

I'd take Jackson no problem, guys a TOP 5 WR in the league.

I can only hope some how we get him, but I don't see it happening.

top 5? lol. no. not even top 10.

He actually was last year, but thats probably not repeatable. He doesnt even have to be great, he just needs to stretch the field and draw attention.
the right type of rookie can do that to without the high price tag, without the headaches , with good mentors like boldin and without the pressure to be a star right away

The right type of rookie can be DeSean Jackson? Thats highly doubtful. Rookie WR are rarely impact players. They need time to develop. Especially the way we use WR. Anyone we draft this year wont be ready to make an impact for a couple years. Plus Jackson gives us a legit PR.

Were about to give Kap a huge deal, so we want to make sure hes got guys who will maximize his value. Boldin only has a couple years left, and Crabtree might be a huge pain to negotiate with. The more longterm options the better. He should come cheap if we play it right. Just re-work his deal to fit our cap once hes here.

Right, but hes a second option. What if Crabtree says he wants something insane, and wont budge? Jackson gives us leverage, and allows us to still have a good WR option. If Boldin retires and Crabtree walks, were not going to be in very good shape.
I'm not all that big on acquiring him, at least not at the price advertised. Plus, he's NEVER happy. Don't think that a perpetually unhappy guy would be best for our locker room. I'll pass

Predictably, GM Trent Baalke's denial on this matter carries little weight. The Niners have been aggressively trying to upgrade their receiving corps this offseason, as they reportedly pursued free agents Golden Tate, Julian Edelman and Hakeem Nicks. Jackson, a California native who played his college ball at Cal, would bring a long speed dimension to a unit that currently features possession guys in Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin. The Eagles' asking price on D-Jax is likely sinking as they've exposed their hand. No one around the league believes there's any way he's back in Philly.

Aren't they the same people who reported there was tension between Harbaugh and Baalke?

We clearly can't get this in the draft, we can't draft WR'S in the draft other than the raiders making the mistake of taking DHB over crabtree, that fell right into our hands.

But besides Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, Dez Bryant, who beats Desean Jackson in top 5?

Josh Gordon, Brandon Marshall, Demaryius Thomas, Julio Jones, victor cruz, Jordy Nelson.

I can only hope some how we get him, but I don't see it happening.

Because he has a tendency to pout, whine or cry and even on a high octane passing team managed to disappear for entire games at a time while padding his stats against the NFL's cupcakes.

Because Philly is happily looking to dump his ass in spite of him being a perfect fit in their offense.

As far as him being a Top 5, not even close. He's basically Mike Wallace, a one trick pony that tends to vanish at key moments.
I totally agree he is being overpaid but Jackson is the one trick pony that the 49ers offense is missing. You simply can't move safety's in the box because this guy will run right past CB's. Teams stack the box against the 49ers because the 49ers WR's don't scare teams going vertical.

I think he's better than Thomas, Cruz, and Nelson. Especially considering the guys who are throwing those three the ball. Just look at what Greg Jennings did when he was separated from Aaron Rodgers and put on a team that actually had a running game to keep the defense honest.

Otherwise, I agree. Not top 5.

Edit: I also think that Fitz might still deserve a spot near the top. Somewhere above Jackson, probably.

Anyone that thinks Crabtree will not want top dollar next year is joking himself in my opinion. The question is if the FO is gonna be willing to pay him top dollar.

So who do we give up long term in order to get DeSean? I would prefer to keep more of our existing players than to bring in a new player that is a malcontent. Crabtree, in comparison, has been a model citizen since the point he has signed his contract. I would prefer to give him the money instead of Desean.
We're not gonna "get" him.

In Before Trent Balke Sucks.
