If he was already on top of his game, I'd still want him there, but I'd understand. He was awful last year. Not much reason to think all the time he'll miss this year wouldn't have a similar effect. Fvck Alex Boone and his selfish, entitled ass.
just voluntary sessions. he'll at least be here for training camp.
Yeah but when the dude complains of a contract last year after getting a deal not long prior to that, then plays like crap, then says the old coach pushed him to hard and they already achieved somthing, then skips out on voluntary workouts....
If he wants a max payday, he has to put in max effort. He didn't do that last year and it is continuing again.

He really didn't play like crap last year. He had some serious bonehead moments that stood out. But most of the rest of the time he was quite effective. And that's in spite of being way out of position and holding out. I'd be pretty surprised if we traded him if we're trying to win this year. One of the young kids would have to seriously impress. He's our swing T too.

Now he wants market value, even though he never accepted the risk of facing an offseason without a contract. Fvck this entitled prick. At the very least, bench his ass when he returns and let him be the swing tackle while Thomas/Martin/Looney handle the OG spots.
It's a voluntary session. Yeah, he took the security. He's still underpaid. Teams ask players to renegotiate all the time, I don't hear people complaining. This isn't a personal attack against you, which is how it seems you are taking it along with the rest of the folks getting emotional over this truly minor decision. We have him on a bargain deal. The team tends to keep guys who produce and are cheaply paid. Most teams do. And teams don't usually bench clearly superior players just to teach them a lesson for missing a voluntary workout. Sends a bad message and probably could be open to a case from the players union if they publicly stated that was the reason (they never would).

My 2 cents...
Yeah, it's voluntary.
...but if I were in a contract year and hoping for a big payday, I'd be busting my butt trying to display not only my talent, but my commitment and dedication to the Sport.
I would be trying, VERY HARD, to show that I am not a problem child who's going to hold out for better pay every stinking year. Other Teams are not only watching game film on potential Free Agents, they are also looking to see what kind of Team mate they would be, if they will set a positive example, or are they just another headache.

Yeah not thrilled that the following are not there...we are installing new systems and terminology (at least on defense) and have new position coaches: Absent at #49ers minicamp: A.Davis, Boone, Boldin, Miller, Kilgore and Ellington rehabbing plus Ward, Lynch, J.Smith, Dorsey and Dockett.
Even rehabbing is no excuse (we have the best facilities in Santa Clara). Get in there with your new teammates, coaches, start learning the playbooks and terminology, scheme, etc. No excuses IMHO.

All true and...sad, both for the niners and for the player. He acts as if falling in the draft was not his fault and they should now pay his as a first round OT. His support for Harbaugh and then criticism of Harbaugh...all within a couple of months confirms my notion that he's a phony.

Has nothing to do with the team and everything to do with this guy's over inflated view of himself. He's good, above average I'd say, but not great /elite. A great player will make a mistake here and there but shouldn't be making them with the frequency they were happening last season.
I dont mind vets taking the voluntary stuff off but what annoys me about this situation is our Oline was without a doubt the worst unit of our team last year. Our lineman should be making every effort to get things right and gel.

I didn't view it as a personal attack. We're good there. I see it as a player looking to unbalance the way our team has very successfully maintained a deep roster by extending players early, knowing that they are getting a bargain by providing significant financial security. He took the security, knowing that doing so would likely result in his compensation falling below his market value. Now that he has that security, he also wants his market value. That's not how our system works. If we do this for each player, our team loses talent. I am a fan of the 49ers, not the Boone's. His actions are selfish, entitled, and dishonest, imo. By missing these practices, he decreases the likelihood that he will have a bounce back campaign (only his run blocking improved significantly as the year wore on, but the rust he showed in the first half+ was still inexcusable and preventable, imo), while petitioning to receive more money for that diminished product.
I am a fan of this team. When player actions align with team goals, I support the players. Unfortunately, the rosters turn over considerably, so when I have to choose between sides, I choose the team's best interest over the players. Boone wants special treatment. I hate entitled behavior, so that makes supporting the team that much easier in this case.

No way Baalke lets this guy sit around making a stink for very long. I expect a trade sometime tomorrow with a team that is willing to give up a 3rd (possibly a 4th) round pick for a versatile OL.
If Baalke grabs Cameron Erving at #15 tonight (I LIKE him), we will know Boone is very short-term. Erving at center with Thomas, Martin and Kilgore competing for the guard spots and backup C/G would solidify the interior OL for years to come.

Trade his ass for a 6th or 7th round pick already he's b***hing about everything lately. I beginning to think the real leak was Boone and not Crabtree.

He is one of the reason why the offensive line struggled all season last year he played half ass just because he did not get an extension & he very well will do the same thing this yr if we dont extend him knowing this is such a important year for us to reclaim glory & try to get back to the top its best if Baalke just dumps this big baby while we still can. I will be extremely pissed if he under mines the season once again knowing we could of gotten rid of him he cleary DOES NOT want to be part of this team anymore & there is no way to convince him either. F*ck Boone he is DEAD WEIGHT. Trade his ass ASAP!!!!!
