Should Clausen give/sell his number (2) to Newton

I was watching some show on ESPN last night, it was a roundtable discussion with Dilfer, Keyshawn Johnson, Steve Young, and coach Herm. The question came up, that Cam Newton said he'd like to wear #2, the number that Jimmy Clausen is wearing for the Panthers. Should Clausen give up his number to Newton, whether it be giving it to him outright, or selling it to him like we've seen in the past with new rookies. One side argued that Cam Newton is the #1 pick and the future, and it is common for new guys to a team to pay veterans for a number if they want it that badly. The other side said, if Clausen gives up his number to Newton he should just leave the NFL now. He should say no, and establish himself as the leader and the guy to beat for the starting job. What do you think?

I wouldnt give it up, unless Cam offered some crazy amount of money.

It sends a message to Cam, if you want my jersey and my spot you gotta work for it.

As much as Newton will be getting paid, Id sell because you know he'll be able to afford it.

Cam Newton getting drafted to the Panthers is actually going to hurt him.

That oline is horrible.

I can see dude getting injured his first 6 games of starting.

Not just the OL, but Cam's gonna learn quickly that he lacks the Mike Vick agility to evade NFL tacklers. He's gonna get lit up if he tries that 1 read and run nonsense against the big boys.

Clausen should refuse to give his number up. Send a message to Cam to say F**k you and your massive ego... unless he's a gutless quitter.

Cosigned, dont give it to him for anything. Establish yourself as the leader and stake your claim on the job. Teammates arent going to respect you if you get punked by a rookie for your jersey number.

I say no. If it was an established player like a Jerry Rice who was acquired yes, Cam Newton hasn't done anything, yet.
