Heading backwards....well, I hope it doesn't happen. But I don't like the patterns I see in Baalke's drafts. He doesn't appear to be able to draft explosive/game breaking type players. WIth high picks he can get you stars, moderately high picks, he gets you merely serviceable ones, and everything else is hit or miss. HIs talent evaluation skills look suspect to me.

Obviously, we ALL hope we don't go backwards but let's be rational about it. HaRoman have a propensity for relying heavily on veterans (Boldin, Lloyd, Johnson, Gore, etc.). That is all well and fine as long as you continue to develop the youngsters along the way ala what Fangio does (and he hates rookies more than anyone!). So as a result, we never got to realize the talent or potential talent here in a competent offensive system with James, Jenkins, Hyde, Patton, Ellington, McDonald, Carrier, Millard, etc.

I have a distinct feeling that these guys have/had some untapped talent and a lot more to offer if properly coached up in a professional system and allowed to grow within the system esp. by getting more quality snaps on the field. Hell, maybe our entire OL and QB is way better than it seems as well if used properly and to their strengths and in the right system.

And NOW, for the first time ever, we'll have a real shot to get more dynamic offensive weapons (b/c we're stacked on defense and b/c we're going to have a 12-14 draft slot). Also, another thing to consider is that with a change of offensive system (i.e. a real WCO), that will dictate who we draft as well. Suddenly great pass catchers like Hyde/Gore/Miller will be heavily utilized successfully in the passing game. Boldin. McDonald/Carrier/Celek have much more potential as WCO TE's than in our current system (McDonald with an injured back d/t BLOCKING all year). Same with Patton/Ellington in the slot. Johnson too! Millard could be dangerous. CK on the move in roll-outs, naked boot-legs, more or all snaps under C, zone blocking now, screens, changes in the OL personnel (accountability), etc. plus throw in all the new shiny toys we'll get on the cheap via FA and the draft (high picks), we have a chance to go from 25th in points to 12-15th very quickly. That alone makes us a 2-4 loss team as long as the defense remains top 5.

The only way we go backwards is if we install a new offense that takes a lot of time to grasp for players, a rash of key injuries on offense and/or the defense magically regresses big time. Starting at 25th...there is only one way to go and the evidence is showing an "arrow up." Have faith!

Yeah, we had all the same issues. This was the AR offense and it took year 3 for DC's to figure it out. If you bring back a healthy Walker and Moss today, we'd still be easier to defend. It would be a bit more successful but all the same issues would remain. This is the key piece people are ignoring. The DC's and players TOTALLY knew what we were doing and once they adjusted, we were done. Completely shut down.

Fans of other teams are just talking s**t because thanks to Harbaugh and his antics the majority of other teams fans dislike the 49ers.

Fans of other teams would also be talking s**t if we kept him

A small, but vocal minority of posters almost seem to be trying to convince themselves that everything is going to be okay.

As a fan, I hope so.

But like I said, I've seen this movie before.

Eddie did eventually fire Seifert (he actually resigned)...but he had a successor lined up from the start. It was a risky move...but Eddie didn't apologize and made the tough choice.

Then the Yorks canned Mooch...and things were handled diffferently. It would change the course of the franchise for close to a decade.

Now here we are again....they fired the coach. And they don't know who the successor is.

If you think the franchise is being run the same way as Eddie would have done it, you are fooling yourself.

I think the minority is you doom and gloomers honestly.

Venture out to the internet at large or listen to the radio, and it's the opposite. Highly unpopular move. Fans of other teams are laughing at us and scratching their heads.

Thanks to Harbaugh and his antics the majority of vocal fans on the net hate the 49ers. Not a good source of the mood of our fanbase in general.

I for one was pleased with and agreed with Jefs desire to return the 49ers to a classy organization. I liked Harbaugh, but had dome serious issues with him at the same time. I also have faith in Baalke, which is where the discconnect between doom and glomers and The Faithful.

True, they did figure us out a bit, but if you have a deep threat like Moss drawing coverage of maybe 2 guys downfield and another deep threat in Walker with Vernon it opens up alot more even if teams knew what we were doing. We never replaced those two.

Either way, good OC's and HC's tweak their offense to cater to the strengths of their players. If you have a Moss and he leaves, then maybe consider that things need to be tweaked.

What we did was a complete overhaul going from power run game to 5-wide. Literally did that within games also. It was all or nothing and never anything in between.

It became obvious that Roman outsmarted himself. If we were playing against a team that was weak vs the pass, Roman would go in with a run-heavy plan over thinking the whole damn thing.

The run heavy plan doesn't work that great with a hurt or whatever Vernon and a bunch of possession receivers.
It sounds like Harbaugh is gonna name Roman as his OC at Michigan. Once that happens I think that should put the Harbaugh, FO, Jed and Baalke talk to bed

No it won't... it'll just raise the level of absurdity. However, it will also provide many on this board quotable references to shut down arguments next year.
One thing I won't miss is the dismissive answers to pressing questions....

Childhood anecdotes don't answer why we can't score points in the 4th quarter.

I would like to think that it would end it, but I know Niner Talk too well, and I know the SF media too well.

Rumor has it he flew out there to see how the pizza tasted before he makes his decision.
