It was reported that the Raiders offered him more $. This clearly WAS a mutual decision to move on. This minority Pro-Harbaugh group just lost their only argument to support their anger directed at the FO...that our FO was too cheap to sign Harbaugh long term.
I'm not sure it was the only argument to be disgruntled with the FO's decision to fire Harbaugh. I really like Harbaugh and my main beef with the decision wasn't the $, it was the "philosophical differences", "win with class" and other vague reasons why he was fired. However, if it's true that the FO tried to re-tool the offense and Harbaugh wouldn't go along with the moves (i.e. fire Roman), then Harbaugh had to go.
I agree. I think it was a collective set of issues, no doubt...the 49er way:
Guestimating: Jed/Baalke didn't like:
1. How he handled himself in pressers, him being stand-offish, and channeling that to his QB; not exactly a positive approach for the "face of the franchise"
2. Fighting with other coaches in year 1
3. Ref-beatings, pissing the NFL FO off, etc.
4. Texas job, then Browns, then Michigan and God knows what others with his "wandering eye."
5. Alleged pull for more power/control (confirmed with Michigan role with the same $ and offered more from the Raiders)
6. Personality and social clashes within the building/FO
As to his baby...the offense...we've all seen the grocery-long list of "arrow down" issues there. These alone would be enough to fire any coach esp. when you can look right across to the sidelines of what it's supposed to look like. Had this offense had the injuries the defense did and had this defense not been top 5 every single year no matter who was on the field, we're be a perennial sub-.500 team and this decision wouldn't be argued by anyone.
I applaud the FO for having the balls to do the right thing...for everyone...even Jim and his family.
