At what point during the regular season does the Super Bowl become part of the discussion?

I would suggest that the Super Bowl, playing in and winning the Super Bowl, does not belong in the discussion, i.e. cannot be taken seriously, until the team has a spot in the play offs guaranteed, and even then it makes more sense to wait just a bit.

Some posters, more than a few, have decided that for all practical purposes the season is over. I do not remember if you are one of them, but I am not willing to quit on this team, its players, or its coaches after we have played only a half a season.

I hope to the Gods that none of our players have quit on the season, have written the season off as a loss, and preparing to move on to the green grasser on the other side of the hill.

Inexplicable losses create a morass of outrage fueled by declining expectations, but if those glorious expectations, fanciful and utopian at best, were actually considered realistic, I guess it makes sense to quit, to abandon the field of struggle, to set our sights on next year.

But, do not count me among those willing to surrender before the battle is lost.

Well I'm not saying the season is over, but with the loss yesterday they just made it harder for themselves. If they go into New Orleans and beat the Saints, everyone's perspective will change.

Florio Rules?

Timmy Kawakami NFL Sage of the Year?

The Cohn Masterminds?

Anne Killion Oracle of Wisdom?

Mass Media = Purveyors of Truth

excuse but is going on here.

Meanwhile, the same problems that were present in 2011 are still here. There's a severe lack of coaching taking place on the offensive side of the ball. The line, under Solari, has been a problem since Singletary was the coach (got better with Drevino), Roman's playcalling is nothing short of terrible. He doesn't adjust to what the defense is doing and keeps trying to force things that aren't there.
I go to message boards that consist of general NFL discussions (i.e. there are fans of all teams there). I consistently see fans of great teams complain about their coaching staffs. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Broncos fans complain about how poor of a coach John Fox is, claiming that his "poor playcalling" costs them games (whether Fox even calls the plays or not doesn't matter -- he's always the scapegoat). Yes, that's right, Broncos fans are complaining that the Broncos playcalling is consistently bad. Yes, those Broncos -- the best-offense-in-the-league-and-historically-great Broncos.

Anyway, my point is that the grass is always greener on the other side. What's going to happen if we let go of Harbaugh and bring someone else in? Is he going to be a magical panacea that solves every problem? Is the new coach going to be infallible and not have any problems or annoying idiosyncrasies of his own? Of course not. None of that is going to happen. A new hypothetical coaching staff is going to have a bunch of annoying flaws of their own.

I think Harbaugh should stay. His record speaks for itself. I think the chances of a new coach coming in and matching Harbaugh's success is remote.

Not everyone's. After the New Orleans game, we will be one game above or below 500.

I will not quit on this season unless we are mathematically eliminated from the play offs.

And even if we are mathematically eliminated, I will not quit on this team---and most particularly I will not quit on a single one of its players.

But, apparently I really am strange.

Is the WZ seriously this dumb? You want to fire Harbaugh? Harbaugh is the best thing that happened to this team in 10 years.

~ Aldon Smith out because of his own dumb self.
~ Willis out injury.
~ Bowman out injury.
~ Center out for the year injury.
~ QB struggling and regressed in some ways.

What do you want Harbaugh to do?

it's funny because with aldon, willis and bowman out no one has questions to ask defense. the defense is OVERACHIEVING. the defense was one of the biggest reasons we were even in the game yesterday. it could've been over much sooner.

the offense, which harbaugh is supposed to be a guru in, is criminally UNDERACHIEVING. we have some of the best talent on offense on paper and can't glue it together, at all. there are far worse offenses out there in the league doing much better. is it not harbaugh's job to make a good offense out of good talent ?
we keep taking timeouts and taking delay of game penalties, year after year. is it not harbaugh's job to make them stop ? is it not harbaugh's job to not waste un-winnable challenges ?

second of all, I dont agree kap is regressing, but he is certainly not making a lot of progress. now the problem is...isnt harbaugh that guy who keeps getting credit for making alex smith a better qb ? and yet he has nothing to do with NOT making kap a better qb ?

you can't have it both ways. either harbaugh has little to do with both alex smith progress and kaps stagnation, or he has to take responsibility for both. you cannot pick or choose.

I saw this year as a 12-4 season... instead, with this coaching staff, who all of a sudden seems to have gotten an infection of CLUELESS Tank, I see us finishing 8-8 at best??

Kurt Warner is right, this is the year we don't make the playoffs..

It seems like the gameplan every week is for the final score to be 20-17. This is Harbaugh's fault and he needs to adjust his philosophy on winning NFL football.

well he won the 2005 and 2006 Pioneer League Championships so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing
Iupati has turned into a run of the mill linemen these days.. Clearly he hasn't spent any time in the gym or on the treadmill.. He's content and has regressed. Yes injuries hurt but it's no longer an excuse. If you're not preparing your self for battle it's on you. Good bye to you sir after this dreaded season. The great Jimmy Johnson once said -

" fatigue makes a coward out of all of us " stay in shape. Stay in shape.

Jonathan Martin, solid back up.. Keep him as a break glass kind of guy.

Staley looks like he's also regressed. Getting beat bad way too often.. He doesn't have strong leadership that would otherwise raise the level of play of his fellow linemen. Instead ol Joe Staley is joining the rest of the bunch and sucking with them.. Bad sign.

Boone physically appears to be in bad shape. His body is flabby and I don't see him get a good push up front. Another scrub run of the mill linemen that you can find in 7th 8th or 9th rounds..

Rookie center MM: Had an awful day but we've got to give him more snaps. I'm hopeful he can be a special player..

The OLine gets an F - for the season thus far..

I completely blame them for playing like a bunch of girls and not manning up in a mans game.. They should be Ashamed of them selves.
Give me Pep Hamilton, OC of the Colts as our Head Coach / OC....and keep Fangio and the defensive coaches!

Make it happen Baalke!
I just read that Harbaugh said he's SATISFIED with Greg Roman's job as offensive coordinator. REALLY?? HE FEELS THIS WAY?? AFTER THAT PHUCKING PERFORMANCE AGAINST THE LAMS?? Well then... HE NEEDS TO GO AS WELL!! Someone fire up a FIRE HARBAUGH NOW thread, please!! UN-PHUCKING-BELIEVABLE!!
Harbaugh is the brains behind the offense. You can criticize Roman for the exact sequence of playcalls, but the system itself is Harnaugh's doing, for good or ill, and it's been a lot of ill lately.

Personally, if this team can get Gruden this offseason or an offensive minded coach that would install a proper West Coast Offense it would do this personnel wonders. They are running the wrong system for this personnel, plain and simple.
